Odd Wishes, with Kevin Gemmell -

In his write-up on Pac-12 media days, Kevin Gemmell writes:
Quote:Coaches tend to bring veterans and guys with experience. Yankey is a great spokesman for Stanford and a good candidate, but I know others wouldn't mind hearing some thoughts from Cardinal QB Kevin Hogan.

Here's how I envision media day, with Kevin Hogan:
REPORTER: What's it like being a national championship contender?
HOGAN: Cool.Â
REPORTER#2: Are you worried about the burden of expectations?
HOGAN: No, not really.
REPORTER#3: Can you describe what it was like to take over in the middle of the season and lead your team to the Rose Bowl, ensuring that Stanford fans could continue to taunt 59er fans for an entire offseason?
HOGAN: It was hectic.
REPORTER#4: I bet a friend I could get more than two words out of you.
HOGAN: You lose.

That's funny. Gemmell is a true optimist if he thinks he can get anything meaningful out of Hogan.

I have to admit I really do enjoy Hogan's style, or lack thereof. I'm happy with the D providing all the personality this year and the O just following his example and quietly getting it done.

In the popular mind, a leader is an extraverted rah-rah stir up the troops type. Introverts, however, are better at listening to others and soliciting feedback. I have found an introverted leader works best when a leader must lead leaders. And the Stanford football team is full of guys who were leaders of their respective high school teams.

I'm content to have Hogan do his talking on the field.Â

One thing I'll always remember about Andrew Luck was how he led in what appeared to be a completely genuine way. I remember when Levine Toilolo was called for holding in overtime of the Fiesta Bowl, and I knew the call was on him before the official made the announcement because Luck went straight to Toilolo after the whistle -- not to chew him out, but to tell him it would be okay. Hogan's gonna be just fine.
