Hey Pat!

Kind of funny to see you at a Stanford board -- you being a U.S.C. guy -- but these are funny times. For example, your team stinks! Kowloon middens smell better than that offense.

You're probably thinking about firing your coach. That's a rash idea. You just need to give ol' Lane some time. Took Frank Beamer six seasons to start winner at Va Tech. Heck, John McKay -- your former coach! -- had some struggles in there too early. Take your time. Wouldn't want to be hasty.

But let's just say you get a bit intemperate and fire your coach. Media reports will probably say, "oh, go hire Chris Petersen." He's like the girl who just takes calls but never actually goes on a date. Boring. Maybe some will say, "oh, hire Charlie Strong." That would be a distressingly good idea.

Here's a suggestion: W.alt H.arris. Tanned, rested, and ready.

If there's one thing that benefits us, it looks likely that Texas and SC will be open at the same time. I'd probably favor Texas over SC.

SouthernCal could have a losing season. That will get Lane fired right away sure. Maybe on balance that's a slightly good thing. He will get fired eventually. Perhaps they won't be able to get as good a coach while the sanctions are still in effect.

One tidbit in the article drew my attention.Â Several of their recruits were in the audience for this embarassment and the crowd's chants.Â I hope those were Stanford recruits.

And another excerpt from the article:

"It was during pregame warmups when Kiffin said he heard the first "Fire Kiffin" chant of the night.

"We're getting used to playing on the road," Kiffin said with a sardonic smile."

You've got that one wrong Kif.Â I'm pretty sure you won't hear that chant on the road.Â Quite opposite, in fact.

Where's GoodGrief?Â We need to start a grassroots campaign to save Kif's job.Â Though in this particular case, I believe the PR/spin term is "astroturf".

Well, at least we know there's no way that Haden would fire a coach in midseason.
