Look who else is in the top 10!

If you think that that\'s freaky, note that his predictor has Stanford #3, so there you go. (Predictor he thinks is more accurate than ELO, because it takes into account margin of victory. However, the BCS, in its infinite wisdom, doesn\'t believe that to be so and only allows the ELO_CHESS rating to be used for its computer ratings.)

Actually that is not correct! Sagarin\'s true rankings are in the Predictor column.

In the predictor column Stanford is #3.

For those that tihnk that Stanford is not a top 15 team, please stop watching the NFL.  Go home and watch some replays of college games on FSN and then you will understand.

I am not buying the Sagarin #3 thing, but it will be very helpful for the BCS at-large possibilities.  If Stanford goes 11-1, USC beats ND and ND still finishes 7-5 or better then an at-large BCS bid would be in the realm.

FWIW - All of the people polls place Stanford in the top 15 and second in the Pac-10.

This is quite a jump up in our Sagarin ratings, but it should be noted that this is his first "unbiased" weekly rating.

I think this means it\'s his first ratings week with sufficient data to avoid giving any weight to preseason rankings. Our previous ratings would have been dragged down by low expectations.

from his website:

"For the first few weeks of the season, the starting ratings have weight
in the process(BAYESIAN), but once the teams are all WELL CONNECTED, then
the starting ratings are no longer used and all teams are started equal
and the RATING, ELO-CHESS, and PURE POINTS (PREDICTOR) are then done in an UNBIASED manner from that point on."
