Predict the score: Stanford @ Washington State - Gauss - 09-25-2013

Hi again

The board has decided that using the total error with respect to the actual score (|PredStanford-RealStanford| + |PredRival-RealRival|) is better than using the spread. However, given that some people made their first predictions focusing on the spread, we'll keep the old scoring system for those 3 weeks, and use the new system from now on.
Thus, no use of predicting 114-100 anymore!

The spread is now the second tiebreaker, and accuracy of the game description the third. Plus, there is a bonus for predicting the exact score, and a penalty for prediciting the wrong winner.

My prediction for this week is
Washington State is able to move with quick passes to the sidelines. However, a number of turnovers (at least 2) does them in and lose 35-14

Stanford 38, WSU 17.  CenturyLink fails to be intimidating when only half full.

Re: Predict the score: Stanford @ Washington State - fullmetal - 09-26-2013

Stanford wins, 40-30.

I'm just not sure that Mike Leach doesn't have nasty tricks up his sleeve.  Stanford will run a few more plays to the right to mitigate Yankey's absence, but WSU will be ready to either throw the book at Garnett or stop the right-sided run, so Hogan will have to throw--often and quickly, which will lead to more clock stoppage and more plays in the game...and more drives for both sides.  On defense, Stanford will have to rush the passer early and often--WSU is playing with a OL dotted with substitutes, but experienced ones after their loss to Auburn.  Leach's Air Raid puts Stanford on their heels early as Ed Reynolds is missed.  Reynolds will come back with a vengeance, hopefully not earning another such targeting penalty but still with the same explosiveness.

Now I'm just blathering.

If USC can hold this offense to a field goal then we really ought to be able to as well.

Re: Predict the score: Stanford @ Washington State - martyup - 09-26-2013

Stanford 34
Cougs 24

Stanford dominates from the opening kickoff and takes a 21 - 0 lead into the locker room at halftime.  Both teams score in the 3rd, making it 27 - 7 to start the 4th.  Cougars score two TDs on long passes and a FG in the 4th while Stanford gets another TD.  The outcome is never in question.

The front 7 come out with a vengeance, determined to show that the 4th Q of the ASU was an aberration. Then Shaw goes to the subs 5 mins into the 4th, and they give up a meaningless touchdown. Shaw starts the press conference by saying he STILL  doesn't care about style points.

Wazzu races to a 14-0 first-quarter lead against a sluggish Stanford team. The defense then largely clamps down and even produces some points, but it takes Hogan leading a fourth-quarter comeback drive capped by a Jordan Williamson FG to give Stanford the lead for the first time. WSU doesn't even get a first down on their desperation drive, and Mike Leach and David Shaw exchange polite pleasantries at mid-field.

Re: Predict the score: Stanford @ Washington State - Leftcoast - 09-26-2013

Stanford, shrugging off the loss of Yankey and Reynolds, pulls out to an early lead that it never relinquishes.  The Cougars do keep it interesting until the fourth quarter when a couple of long Gaffney led drives send the WSU fans streaming to the gates to get an early start on their drive home to the Palouse.

Re: Predict the score: Stanford @ Washington State - FarmBoy - 09-26-2013

For S***s and Giggles, should we add Ted Miller and Kevin Gimmel to our Score Predictathon?

Here's their predictions for the WSU game:

Stanford vs. Washington State (in Seattle)

Gemmell: Will be interesting to see how the Cougars attack Stanford early with Ed Reynolds out for the first half. I'm guessing they go at the heart of the Stanford secondary because running against the Cardinal will be a chore. Turnovers have been Washington State’s Achilles Heel (11 total, minus-3 ratio, worst in the league). Stanford will do what Stanford does. And what Stanford does should be more than enough. Stanford 31, Washington State 17.

Miller: Stanford will be missing All-American OG David Yankey, too, so the Cougs' front-seven will be catching a break. No guard in the country is better at pulling, so that hits the Cardinal's bread-and-butter. But Stanford figures to take this one seriously because the Cougars gave them trouble last year, is an obviously improved team and the Cardinal turned in a woeful fourth quarter last weekend against Arizona State. Stanford 35, Washington State 22.

Re: Predict the score: Stanford @ Washington State - Treebound - 09-26-2013

Stanford 37 WSU 17

Missing Yankey and Ed will have some impact, but expect us to win the turnover battle and keep that streak alive.  We also need some work on our field goals so good game for Shaw to test accuracy and nerves.

I hope Crower and maybe Lloyd get a series with more than just power.
