Pac-12 Player of the Week - stan01 - 09-30-2013

Oregon State leads Stanford 4-0 in the Pac-12 Player of the Week tally.  Eastern Washington University is impressed.

Best part of the article is the only $outhernCal player of the week was their punter.

I have watched multiple USC games on DVR now.  The USC punter is very good.  He has been called the MVP of the game, etc.

Never a good sign that your punter gets to participate so frequently, but he does seem to be a very good punter.  If USC had WSU's punter, for example, USC would probably be 1-4 right now, that is how important this punter has been to that team.

Sean Mannion is playing his butt off for OSU, and he has a stable of surprisingly good and underrated wideouts to which to throw the ball.  Unfortunately for the Beavs, they don't have much of a running game and the defense gave up a jillion points to Eastern Washington.

Stanford so far has been very balanced, so we haven't needed Hogan to throw 55 times in a game or Gaffney run for 200 yards.  Trent Murphy, in my estimation, could have been the defensive player of the week but I didn't watch all the other games.  Our turn will come.

Re: Pac-12 Player of the Week - 76lsjumb - 10-01-2013

Interesting...On Saturday two undefeated teams, ranked #5 and #15 in the nation, respectively, will face each other at Stanford.  And, there won't be a 2013 Pac-12 Player of the Week anywhere on the field at any time.  Indeed, it appears that Stanford and UW are the only two teams in the Conference NOT to have a Player-of-the-Week so far.

That's got to mean something...I'm just not sure what.

Because they are both playing like a TEAM.

Player of the week honors go to individuals not teams. A team that has to rely on a few exceptional players has a better chance of getting this award than a team that has uniform talent accross the board.

Re: Pac-12 Player of the Week - 2 for 2028 - 10-06-2013

I'm guessing a certain Cardinal WR gets special teams player of the week honors.

I agree. Francis Owusu was awesome as a gunner.

;D

Although I didn't see much of any of the other games this weekend, I wouldn't have a problem with Ty Mont.gomery as Special Teams POW and Keith Price as Offensive POW based on last night's game.

Now that you mention it, I thought our punt coverage was outstanding.

Re: Pac-12 Player of the Week - FarmBoy - 10-06-2013

Actually, I did think Francis Owusu played really well yesterday. Lots of great tackles on ST. The #4 on the jersey is nice to see as well after Drew Terll did so well with it on ST's the past few years.

Re: Pac-12 Player of the Week - 76lsjumb - 10-06-2013

No knock on Owusu.  It was great to hear his name mentioned a number of times.  Still, it's not often you see a player take a kickoff on the 1 yard line and sprint 99 yards straight up the field for a touchdown.

I was a little confused by the last kick-off return, though.  From the stands, it looked like he didn't make much of an effort to return it beyond the 20 or so and, instead, deliberately went down when there was more yardage to be gained.  I understand not wanting to risk fumbling, but still, when you're having the kind of return night he was, getting the ball out a little farther down the field seemed like a fairly low-risk proposition.
