Finally: Phill Simms eats crow - FarmBoy - 10-09-2013

I didn't see it live, but apparently Phil Simms admitted his poor pre-draft evaluation of Luck during the MNF pre-game:

Quote:"I underestimated almost everything about this guy. He's bigger, stronger, more mobile than I expected and has adapted to the NFL game very fast... He can do anything you want. His mechanics are flawless. He has great balance. He is big and strong. His shoulder is in the right angle that you always want. And the arm angle makes his throwing motion very efficient. He can drive the football down the field with ease."

Now, I wonder if we'll ever hear Skip Bayless make a similar mea culpa.

Does anybody believe Simms would have had essentially the same assessment of Luck had Luck played on a team east of the Mississippi (or just not on the West Coast)?

Re: Finally: Phill Simms eats crow - pincemob - 10-09-2013

Another question is when will Steve Sarkisian eat crow for saying he would have drafted Matt Barkley ahead of Andrew Luck.

A reminder on what exactly Phil Simms said about Luck ....

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/11/03/phil-simms-andrew-luck_n_1073314.html

He subsequently tried to support his position by ranking Luck behind his NFL Draft day rivals in what may well turn out to be the best QB draft in a decade.

If you assume that it's possible for the man to admit he's wrong in the face of overwhelming evidence and consensus opinion (big assumption), Sarkisian would only admit that Andrew Luck is the better quarterback when he knows with absolute metaphysical certitude that he will never ever ever get his dream job.

Re: Finally: Phill Simms eats crow - fullmetal - 10-09-2013

Sark's thoughts on Andrew Luck ought to trigger his PTSD from having Stanford rumble all over his 2011 team for 446 yds.  Such a game to behold.  Both Stepfan and Gaffney each had over 100 yds rushing and a TD.  Wilkerson had 93 yds and 2 TDs.

speaking of that 2011 game vs UW...is there any way to view that on the web?  haven't found it yet

nor have i seen it on the pac-12 network's list of replays...

has anyone seen this again, outside their own DVR?

Usually I don't laugh out loud, but I couldn't contain it after reading this:

Quote:"Luck has established himself as an NFL passer, which opens up room to run, and he is taking advantage. Against the Raiders, when their defenders turned away while covering five receivers, he sprinted 19 yards for the winning score. He took a bootleg 6 yards untouched for a TD at San Francisco. Five of his runs have gone for 10 yards or more. In 20 rushes, he’s averaging 6.8 yards, up from 4.1 last year. “He was like a running back in college; he used to run people over all the time,” said Chargers cornerback and USC alum Shareece Wright."

Between this quote and Simms' quote, it is a great day!

I think this past week has shown us that Sarkisian exhibits very poor judgment before he opens his mouth.

I think I have that one too.  Let me check.  And the 2009 U$C ("what's your deal") has been found as well.

Do you have either posted somewhere?...would love to see them again.

Skip Bayless is a victim of the Dunning-Kruger effect.  So, no.

Skip Bayless knows almost nothing about sports, and the only reason he has a job is to stir up the pot and create controversy.  He is starting to not argue when Stephen A Smith says Luck is better than RGIII, but that's about as good as it'll get.

If/when Skip Bayless finally admits that the Shermanator is better at life than he is, I'll start paying attention to Bayless again...

That's got to be the best smackdown line ever.

And finally, Luck making the kind of catch that Simms' receivers needed to make, thanks to Simms' arm:

One big difference:  Simms actually needs to be correct relatively regularly.  Bayless labors under no such burden.  He just needs to be a full-time, full-scale douchebag.  And mission accomplished there.

Re: Finally: Phill Simms eats crow - scorecard - 10-12-2013

Bayless is the ultimate troll.  He says whatever is controversial to drum up more press.  ESPN does not care about his journalistic integrity, just whether he can get more viewers, otherwise they would have fired him after his lies about leading his high school team to a state championship when he was just a bench warmer.  I shouldn't even continue feeding the troll by posting this.

His most recent tweet on Luck:
"I do not understand the overhyping of Andrew Luck. Nearly lost at home to TPryor 1st game, did lose home to Tannehill. Averaging 229 a game!"

He is not arguing as much these days that the Colts should have taken RG3 over Luck, but he continues to say that the Colts should have taken 2-3 years of Manning rather than an entire career of Luck.  There are $18 million reasons why Luck was the right decision for the Colts.  Furthermore, if an immobile Manning played behind the same o-line that Luck did and took some of the hits that Luck did, I'm not sure his surgically repaired neck even holds up for 2-3 years at all.

While I can't say that Richard Sherman's blasting of Bayless was the most flattering representation of a Stanford athlete, I can't say that I didn't enjoy it.  And unfortunately that's exactly what ESPN and Bayless want.

Sigh.  Sometimes it's hard being a sports addict.

Re: Finally: Phill Simms eats crow - AthleticsDynasty - 10-12-2013

I don't think Skip ever really dissed Luck. He just thinks RG3 is better which is a perfectly legitimate opinion to have

Rick's as amazing as Skip is a tool. You should've told him to come to DC. He opened a place in Philadelphia, surely he can bless the Beltway with some amazing Mexican food.

RB is also responsible for the greatest airport food ever, and the sole reason to enjoy a layover in O'Hare: Tortas Fronteras.

Re: Finally: Phill Simms eats crow - Cardinal96 - 10-31-2013

Kudos to Phil Simms.  It is hard to admit when you are wrong and he owned up to it.
