Second half expectations from this season - shinsengumi - 10-14-2013

Pulse check on season expecations

Re: Second half expectations from this season - shinsengumi - 10-14-2013

I've had this nagging feeling that the team has almost been coasting through the first few wins. I expect Shaw to light a fire under the coaches' and the team's collective as*. The UCLA game will tell a lot, but I am hoping for a dominating performance this Saturday.

The thing is, we all knew that could happen, and I remember multiple interviews in the offseason saying that we don't buy into hype, one game at a time, rankings are meaningless, etc etc. All the platitudes. If Shaw actually allowed the team to coast that would be somewhat damning.

I think we lose 2-3 more.  Oregon and one or two others.  I am optimist and voted for 2 more losses.

Oh, I agree, the buck stops at Shaw in terms of preparing his team.

Kool-aid.  Team buckles down and gets it done.

SATX would alleviate my travel costs this season for sure, but a BCS/NCG berth would be worth paying to see again :)

Re: Second half expectations from this season - Kathy - 10-14-2013

I just don't see us beating Oregon if the team plays the way it has the past two weeks. Still holding out hope for a win against UCLA; with 2 losses we still go to a BCS bowl.

Well, I have added to the bad juju with my 38-17 prognostications, so I am affecting a somewhat more guarded outlook.

If we play the way we did during 7 out of 8 quarters against WSU and ASU, anything is possible, including upsetting Oregon (who I believe are the best in the country). If we play the way we did against Utah, we'll be a 7-5 or 8-4 type squad.

I think Stanford loses to Oregon State and Oregon, but wins the rest. I'm totally down with that too.

Re: Second half expectations from this season - 71Bear - 10-14-2013

Based on what I saw on Saturday (the UW/UO game and the UC/UCLA game), LSJU will easily defeat UCLA and lose to Oregon.  Of course, I have not seen LSJU play this season so take this for what it is worth.

Parting comment: UCLA may be the most overrated team in the country.......

Re: Second half expectations from this season - Oasis - 10-14-2013

I don't see why we should fold after one sub-par effort.  The only clear favorite over us is Oregon, and this year again they look like Genghis Khan's horde: mobile, lethal, mean.  But that was also true last year.  They were terrifying to watch.  They had so many weapons and an evil genius coach but lo and behold we beat them.

Stanford will rally, run the table from here on and go to a BCS bowl, in whatever weird way that's being done this year.  Alabama vs. Ohio State in the not-very-interesting championship game.
