A final post - for now- and a request if you don't mind - 61_Shasta - 10-14-2013

All I can say at this point is "wow". A friend that tailgates with us works out with a former Ute player who put the chances of Utah beating Stanford at about 5%.  I thought he was being optimistic.  As I recall, there weren't any serious injuries.  Never want to see a young man get hurt. Our QB had a pretty nasty cut on his thumb for the second week in a row and a LB needed a few stitches but that's about it.

I'll take my leave until basketball rolls around.  I never want to be "that guy".  The one that hangs on an opponent's board way past the time he probably should.  I'll probably lurk a bit as this is without doubt the most civil board I've visited.

We got a chance to meet quite a few Stanford fans, particularly trevmeisterj and his son which was very nice.  We hope you enjoyed your stay in SLC despite the outcome of game. I have to say, that was pretty much ideal college football weather.  Oh, and yes, we proved to trev that Polygomy Porter is an actual beer.  Looking forward to seeing his and everyone's pictures!

One last thing, if I may. Our DE/LB Trevor Reilly has an 11 month old daughter, Shayn, who is fighting kidney cancer. She had surgery in July and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. Regardless if what you believe in is someone, something or nothing, would you mind taking just a second of two to send some good energy her way? Can't say that it will help but it sure can't hurt.

Good luck with UCLA.  They are fast on both sides of the ball.  Hundley is amazingly accurate with a strong arm and their defense is stronger than the score might indicate.  Have a great rest of your season and don't be surprised if, come next year, you see a motorhome pulling a little red and white trailer down the 280!  I've heard great things about Stanford and am looking forward to seeing the sights in person.

You should stick around.  There's no statute of limitations for polite, well-mannered fans of opposing teams! :)  In fact, we have a special member title for them you might see around--"Honorary Heathen" :)  Wouldn't mind if Utah ran the rest of the table (as long as Stanford does?)...many years ago I remember seeing Utah in the Fiesta Bowl (I think it was) carving up Pittsburgh, who ended up firing their head coach into our waiting arms (ugh).  Good DL play in that game.

Quote:Every Friday, Reilly and his wife Jessica take Shayn to the hospital for chemotherapy. Doctors removed a tumor from her kidney that Reilly describes as “the size of my fist.”  Treatments will continue until December, at which point “we hope she will be cancer free.”

Keep us posted on Shayn's progress.  What an ordeal for an 11-month old and her parents!

You got it.

I would be happy to read everything you post here. I think most people here feel the same way.

I will send some energy to your DE's daughter too.

You are very welcome here, 61_Shasta.

I can attest that Polygamy Porter is in fact real.  I found it quite smooth for a Porter and not nearly as stressful as likely dealing with multiple wives.

Shasta_61 was everything good about the collegiate football fan.  He and his tailgate mates were not only welcoming to us, but full of great knowledge, lore and entertaining stories; it was a ton of fun right from the get go with these folks.  If any on this board wish to experience and absorb a positive NCAA football experience, look no further than Utah.  Raucous tailgating with all manner of classic travel trailers, fire engines, buses and cars painted up in red and adorned with Ute insignia; it is a seriously spirited tailgating community.

There is no point in adding my two cents on Standfords performance https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BWZoWi1CcAAUN6K.jpg but the Utes deserved that win-they played inspired.  The crowd was into it but never obnoxious and I enjoyed bantering back and forth during the game.  The stadium is full of fun from the participants gaming for prizes on the field, the start of the 4th quarter drums and cannon blasts, The Crazy Lady and the MUSS.

Here are some pics if anyone wishes to see how they do it in SLC...

Shasta put me on to this site and he is good people.  We love interacting with the PAC 12 fans, they are so much better than what we normally have to deal with (BYU, ugh).  You guys and your coach have displayed class and grace, even in defeat.  Kudos, we'll be pulling for you the rest of the way.
