Oooh! What would I give to be spat at in the face? - Redrum - 10-25-2013

Apparently oregonblitzkrieg really, really wants to fight.  So when we politely but firmly decline, he goes whimpering to... (wait for it) Bear Insider!!

His post titled:  The Cardboard.org = a bunch of thin-skinned wimps

Quote:"Do any of you post on TheCardboard.org? LOL. They're such wimps. I go on there, in hardly a trollish manner, but like any good rival would, and wish them a good game against the barkrats, but telling them that the goodwill ends after that game and to expect a little revenge. Then they act like a bunch of babies and ban me? What's their problem?"
And, realizing he has a pliable audience, he posts again:

Quote:"Do they expect everyone to heap praise on their team and not talk out of line? I certainly wouldn't call the thread I posted over there 'overt' trolling. I hope the people that hang out on Hardcore Husky board trolled them hard. Have any of you visited that place? It's total anarchy. A lair of trolls if ever there was one. Your board and theirs are my favorite rival boards by far. Yours is pretty cerebral. Stanford's board is completely lame. I suppose I should have expected that."
Love the way he fawns over BI posters, opining: "yours is pretty cerebral."

And, of course, the Insiders all dutifully lined up to felate him.

Given the timing and similar writing style — and in spite of the different IP addresses — I think Oregonblitzkrieg and DucksAreRoostingInTheTree are the same person. I'm sure that just as Utah has 61_Shasta, that Oregon has some sane fans, nonetheless.

I have to admit, we are the sherry hour of fan boards.

Sherry.  Nuts.

What's not to like?

I'm rather sad myself that that Utah poster from yesterday got banned so quickly. He was trolling the T-shirts that Utah made upon beating Stanford. I had my condescending reply all written up (which was basically like, "good for you kids! we only made regular-season victory T-shirts when we beat the #1 team in the country who hadn't lost at home in like 6 years as a 41-point underdog with a 2nd-string QB in his first start following a 1-11 season. But hey, if our coach passing twice with a minute left on your 6 yard-line gave you your Rose Bowl for the season, then woohoo, celebrate tonight!"), but never got to post it because I assume he and the thread got removed.

indignation fuels trolls. condescension or apathy deflates them.

I am to lazy to figure it out by looking at the FAQs, but he is banned?  I thought if he got negged his posts would just not be visible to those who chose that option.

I prefer to extend the benefit of doubt until trolls reveal themselves.  They usually get anti-social pretty quickly - expletives, ad-hominem attacks, overt insults.  In my opinion, OregonBlitzkrieg hadn't crossed that line but given his BearInsider remote trolling it's a moot point.  Trolls will be trolls and it's a bullet dodged.

Still, Garvin's point is a good one.  If we assume every visitor is a troll until proven otherwise we'll dodge an OBK but we may also miss a Utah61, Outsiderfan, BigAppleBucky, 71Bear or Ferris Bueller and the other "Honorable Heathens".  I'd counsel a slightly slower triggerfinger (and that doesn't mean to put away the gun!)

I sort of felt the same way as garvin, but now seeing how he/she/it reacted -- i.e., actually taking the time to go over to the W.eenies board and whine about it -- I'm less concerned.  Plus, he/she/it deserved a couple of negative points simply for jumping the gun on that game for no apparent good reason [i.e., asking for pre-trip advice about attending the game at Stanford or the like].

As for the Utah shirt guy, I guess if your drawer isn't already filled with recent Rose Bowl Champion shirts, you've got to get something else to wear.  FWIW, I went back and forth at the time on whether to buy a Greatest.Upset.Ever. shirt and eventually decided against it [although I did get one for my son].  Now, I wish I had...

I don't know where you draw the line. But, the more trash talking you permit the more you will attract. I would much rather be thin-skinned than be bombarded with the 13-year-old bickering you see on other boards.

As for the Cyberbear comments, who cares what BearInsider, Duckboard (or whatever it's called) and the other clone board fans think???    Send 'em to the Boot Free board and let them crow.

Vive la difference!

Don't go away mad. Just get even - Redrum - 10-25-2013

I have to recuse myself on the original banning. Never saw it before it was banned.  But I also agree, going whimpering to the Bear Insider doesn't help his case.

But really, if you want to state your case, don't do that.  Do THIS

Now that artist had co.jones.  Anchored his opinion opposite the government buildings in the river that runs through the heart of Prague.  He was protesting the current Czech president taking former Communist government officials back into the current government.

Are those guys on the boat also mooning the government buildings?

Has anyone else made shirts about beating us in the recent run? I don't seem to recall any.

It's good to make shirts about our wins but, once the immediate pain of the loss wears away, it's even better to know we are now one of those teams that others make shirts about when they beat us.

UW did last year as well.

I have a 2013 Rose Bowl Champions t-shirt.  UDubs shirts are nothing by comparison.

Their "We beat you" t-shirts can be placed next to their "We lost the Apple Cup and Las Vegas Bowl: 7-5 for life!" t-shirts.

My $.02 worth - JohnR34231 - 10-26-2013

The problem with good natured bickering is that it so often degenerates into junior high school taunts and insults.

Probably just as well to nip it in the bud rather than wait until it actually happens.

Although I don't think you have to be nasty to the people. Just tell them politely but firmly we don't do that stuff here.

Just what we need on the Potomac.

I think the idea behind banning obk is not so much obk himself as timing.  For now all the psychic voltage needs to be directed to Corvallis.  Next week we can let the quackers in, at least for the George Meade hour.

I think ignoring them works better. You can't tell deviant 13 year olds that their behavior is unacceptable without getting more of the same.

I wouldn't trade my

Neither would I!  ;) Just commenting on how we finished our season compared to theirs.

-- just for the record, I think that what fuels a true troll is simply being replied to. You could craft the most perfect dis, and if they are the genuine 15-year old troll, they just hit reply, make a penis joke about your userID, and keep on what they were saying.

-- there is probably a game or two that I would wear a shirt for. Frankly, the stomping of kal a few years back made me so warm and happy, I actually asked if they had a shirt about it at the Stanford bookstore. But it's also about what you would put on the shirt. Design, text... It would have to fit the context just right.
