WBB: Starters 2013 -

Quote:[iOn the potential starters for the season
...
Coach: Mikaela Ruef, were very excited about. First of all Mikaela graduated academically but she chose to come back to Stanford and pay her own way to get her masters degree or they call it co-term in engineering. As it worked out, she now is on scholarship because of the two injuries that we did have. But Mikaela is a sneaky worker, shes one of those Stanford kids that they dont ever want to show them youre studying, so she goes tot the gym early in the morning. But shes really improved a lot. Shes looking to be a lot more offensive and shes a great passer. So Chiney and Mikaela Ruef would be our starting forwards so to speak.
Then our three with more help would be Kailee Johnson who could play a 4 inside, Erica McCall could play inside and Tess [Picknell] could play a lot inside. We do miss Allie. If Allies healthy she wouldve been a great piece to puzzle. But I think our two freshmen and Tess with Chiney and Mikaela Ruef.[/i]

I don't think anyone would be surprised that Chiney and Ruef will start, with Erica and Tess backing them up.
What is a surprise is that she noted that Kailee would be "our three."Â Tara experiments with lineups in the first couple of months, but Kailee must have impressed her deeply to suggest that she would start over Taylor and Bonnie.Â
Elsewhere she talked about Amber as having improved, and mentioned Alex, but did not talk much about the other guards. I would guess that Sara James will get the start at first for her defense, but I wonder if the new guards or Alex or Jasmine will eventually get the nod.
So far it looks like:
Chiney
Ruef
Kailee
Sara James
Amber Orrange
And second team would be
Erica
Tess
Taylor or Bonnie
Jasmine or Alex or Karlie
Lili
But all that will like get shuffled as the newcomers show what they can do and as Tara tries different groups out to see what jells.

I read it as the three who could help in the paint!
With the refs calling the game more closely this will help us, Chiney hopefully will not get beat up as much and we can continue with our solid defenders which helped us last year being 1 of the top defensive teams. It will also help players like Johnson in the paint with rebounding as she is less likely to be pushed around but players like McCall will get into foul trouble more as she is undersized.

Ah! Maybe you are right. I may have jumped to conclusions based on that fuzzy language. I thought that Kailee Johnson was more of a natural wing and Erica McCall is more of a natural post, though.... They are both 6'3", so I was not aware that Johnson might have a size advantage over McCall.
