Oregon may be the only Pac-12 team with a shot at the NCG.  Sigh.  VA Tech was exposed against Duke, but I don't think anyone else in the ACC will show up to beat FSU.  Maybe Miami?  The Seminoles play the 'Canes this week.  Then Wake, 'Cuse, Idaho (?!), and Florida.  Way to steal one from the $EC playbook with Idaho there.  Then, the presumed ACC title game, probably against Miami (undefeated as of now).

Michigan State is undefeated in conference play and has a 7-1 overall record.  They'll likely face off against Ohio State in the Big 10 championship game.  Hope against all hope there too.  Ohio State does play at Michigan the week before the Big 10 championship (their other games are Purdue, Illinois, and Indiana).

Alabama could lose.  They play LSU, @ Mississippi St., Chattanooga, and @ Auburn.  They could lose at Auburn...

And of course, Stanford has to beat Oregon.

But if Alabama has 1 loss - don't you think they'll still rank higher than us? Don't think they'll lose twice. If they did - say to both Auburn and LSU - Auburn would probably move ahead of us with only one loss.

That leaves Florida State and Ohio State - both have to lose - even though that doesn't seem likely.

And we have to win out.

Depends on who they lose to.  And the recency bias might work in our favor, esp if we beat Oregon.  Auburn will probably beat Arkansas and Tennessee, but they might lose to Georgia (home game) as well as Bama (also home game).

If it comes to a decision between teams with equal numbers of losses, the decision will be arbitrary, based on a nearly-random factor.

For example, the pundits were criticizing Stanford (in relation to one-loss teams) for its bad loss -- Utah is seen as a bad team, which we'll accept for the sake of argument. But why are bad losses the deciding factor? Why not quality wins? Why not strength of schedule overall? Why not margin of victory? Choosing which criterion you're going to use to distinguish between teams is -- unless it's a totally obvious difference, e.g. between Ohio State and the Bama/Oregon/FSU troika -- basically down to random whim. It's not worth worrying about.

Doubt Auburn loses to Georgia. And Auburn is probably the only SEC team that could beat Bama.
