After that game I thought it didn't matter, we'd never beat FSU/bama. Now? God damn it, that loss...

I also hadn't let myself believe that we were national contenders. The loss was only annoying because of the abuse I will take from my Utah relations. Now the gravity hits me and it's depressing.

BCS history suggests that it is quite possible that at least 1 loss team will be in the game. Stanford's SOS and corresponding computer rankings are really important. Stanford needs to win every weekend. That is first. Then Stanford needs some help, but history suggests that level of help COULD be provided.
Geaux Tigers! Go Tigers! Go Blue! Hook'em Horns! Go Gators!
Those four or five big time programs take care of business and things could be fun. Of course, Stanford has a lot of big time programs left on the schedule too.
Go 1-0 each weekend. That is all they can do. No need to dwell on the Utes or the Ducks.

Some might say that the loss was the jolt that Stanford needed to refocus, at least from the defensive standpoint. The performance the past three games vs. UCLA, Oregon State and Oregon has been smothering.
Despite the Utah loss, the team still can achieve its goals - win the Pac 12 North, win the conference championship game, go to the Rose Bowl. As Coach Shaw said to the team after the game, "Next week makes this week count."

They will be able to look at that the way we look at The. Greatest. Upset. Ever. (only not quite as much). If we can take care of business, a fourth BCS bowl will be the reward.

I'm actually worried the team will take USC lightly. My, how unthinkable that would have been even as recently as September of last year.

Another Rose Bowl would be pretty dreamy as well.
I really doubt the team will overlook a 7-3 US'C team (they're going to kill Ca'l). Any time you go against US'C, you know it's a chance for history (going for 5 in a row now.) As others have mentioned, they'll have 2 extra days to purge this win from their memories and they'll get to watch next week's opponent on TV putting up massive points. They'll be motivated and I think they'll need to be.

I'm not. USC may have lost to WSU, but they've played fairly well since Kiffin was fired. And now they have the chance to derail our season they way we derailed theirs last year. We'll get their best shot, and we know it. After Utah I doubt we suffer another hangover.
Of course, anything can happen...
