No offense to our Sparty visitors, but I think Stanford should be ranked above them. Obviously we'll get the chance to show it on the field, so I'm not terribly exercised.

I hope we're ranked below them. Yet more disrespect. I was just checking the FEI, and while it hasn't even been updated to LAST week, we're ranked well ahead of MSU in every facet of the game. We're a better team and we should beat them. If no one else thinks that, then awesome, we get to add that "we're being slighted" edge that works
so well for us.

I have no problem with the idea that Michigan State is ranked in the top 5. Good for them. The winner of the game will definitely finish in the top 5 and the loser could stay in the top 10. So that's great too.
It is so hard to predict how teams will change over the next ~4 weeks, but I like the idea that Stanford is getting a quality opponent. Getting that Rose Bowl win in my lifetime meant I liked the idea of mediocre Wisconsin for RB2013, but like the idea of a high stakes RB2014 now that I have seen Stanford win at least one Rose Bowl.

Also note that Stanford is 5-0 against this top 25. Aside from that, these polls don't mean much, except that a win would put the Cardinal firmly in the top five, possibly as high as #2 (if Florida State wins decisively and Alabama loses).

Harris poll: #4 MSU, #5 Stanford.
Expect BCS rankings to be the same.

Dantonio ranks his own team (MSU) #2 while ranking Stanford #7. Sometimes we get a player bragging before the game (DAT comes to mind). I can't remember a coach doing so.

And the BCS standings, as expected, are MSU #4, Stanford #5. There's a pretty good amount of distance between us, 0.8600 vs 0.8191.

David Shaw sure was smart to give up his coaches poll vote. Now Dantonio is on record with where he ranks his team and his opponent. Nobody will ever know what David Shaw thinks.
As a lawyer friend once told me:Â You can never get in trouble for saying things you don't say.
Stanford now has more chip on shoulder feeding fodder, straight from the head coach of the team they are playing in the Rose Bowl.

I dunno. From his various press quotes over the course of the season, I'm pretty sure that Shaw thinks were #1 [if we play like we're capable of playing] and he couldn't care less about the other team's ranking.
At least, that what he seems to suggest, week in and week out, win or lose. And I, for one, have no problem with that attitude [...especially if he wants to keep it to himself].

According to ESPN, the opening betting line has Stanford as a 6 point favorite. This would be consistent with Sagarin Predictor ratings. ESPN panel chose stanford 3-1. The exception was the shorthaird skinny young guy. I don't usually watch these people so I don't know the name.

That feels about right to me.

I didn't see it but if I had to guess....David "Douchebag" Pollack, $EC apologist extraordinaire, badmouthing Stanford at every opportunity. Just another haircut.

Before the Pac-12 CG, when I saw that we were an underdog against ASU, I got a cozy feeling.

Stanford is the highest ranked two loss team so perhaps this "no respect" tune is overplayed. If we want a higher ranking then don't lose to Utah.
