Greetings from an MSU Spartan - groverj3 - 12-08-2013
Congrats to Stanford for winning the Pac-12. Lots of respect for your team due to the way they play the game. Strong offensive line and defense, run the ball, etc. I guess I'm the stereotypical Big 10 fan that hates to watch hurry up offenses and 5 yard slants all game long.
This should be a good matchup. Stanford has the advantage in terms of travel distance, of course, but that's the way it goes when you're a Big 10 team. Both teams are very similar, scheme wise, on offense. Mostly being power running I formation or multiple TE teams, but mixing in shotgun and other formations when needed. Both teams have a good defense and play well against the run, although we blitz more often (almost all the time). I've watched a few Stanford games this season and it almost feels like I'm watching my alma mater in different uniforms at times. Your coach seems like a class act as well. After playing Urbz it'll be a nice change.
I'm anticipating MSU fans traveling well to the Rose Bowl. Sure, we don't have the national "Walmart" fanbase of a scUM, Ohio State, Alabama, etc. but we have a lot of alumni. It's also been a very long time since we've been there, most of my fellow Spartan friends have talked about making the trip, and we have a relative large number of alumni in CA. I hope to be there myself but it's all dependent on this poor grad student scrounging up the necessary $$$.
Anyway, I would invite you to post over at The Red Cedar Message Board (on Spartantailgate.com, MSU's 247 Sports Site) but I don't know how that would end. It can be rather uninviting to opposing fans, but it is the largest MSU sports forum (it was independant for a long time before it became part of 247). Anyway, Greetings and feel free to ask me questions about the Spartans!
