Private board - admin - 12-11-2013

Many of you who logged in to the CardBoard home page may have noticed a new board called Private discussion. It is for discussions meant for Cardinal fans' eyes only. The board is not visible to visitors (ie, those who are not signed in) or to any poster with a rank of less than LSJUMB Member. (no "ProFros," "Frosh," or "Stanford man or woman.")

Please use your discretion.

Re: Private board - Trevmiesterj - 12-11-2013

For those wishing to be able to unlock the Red and White embossed gates and hear the choir as you enter, it takes 100 posts to achieve LSJUMB status.

Re: Private board - bazza97 - 12-11-2013

Looks like I will have to become more active in posting!

Based on your posting history, I will still read them and likely give a +1.

This might be incentive enough for me to come out of the shadows - czaja - 12-11-2013

I'm not a very original thinker, and people generally have posted something close to my thoughts before I get a chance.  However, I might have to be less reserved if it means a VIP pass  ;D

Just 96 posts to go for each of us!

No worries, Hulk. The administrator understands that all your contributions are valuable.

Re: Private board - bazza97 - 12-11-2013

I'm not sure that this what the site administrators were hoping for when they made the private board  :)

Or maybe they were....

Re: Private board - yvonne - 12-11-2013

I'm sure that anyone with a name like Brannerite will make only positive contributions.

Re: Private board - Greyhound - 12-11-2013

If they hold true to form, all our new Spartan friends will simply post their own series of hastily conceived posts to get access to "private" Stanford goods again.

Sadly, it appears any last hope for face value tickets is rapidly disappearing and any benefit to a private discussion will now be limited to scouting out the best spots to watch the game from the parking area.

Dunno. Branner sucks.

I realize that it's a bit like closing the barn door after the horse has escaped, but at least we can deter future events. It may be a place where we can post other kinds of sensitive information. When I saw the post last night, I thought it was ill advised, but I didn't have a way to deal with it.

I'm on the road, but hope the other moderator will circumspectly delete messages from outsiders attempting to override the system. The Dishonerable Heathen designation will be useful in that regard.

I don't know much about this board's software (I've only moderated with PHPBB), but couldn't you just put obvious opposing fans into ANY group (including honorable heathen) and then exclude those groups? Spammers could go into dishonorable, but I don't really see any need to include honorable either (as much as we love our honorable heathens over here).

Also, I'd recommend removing this thread after a few days so that new people trickling over don't know about a private forum.

May I suggest adding a time component to the user filter to capture some trustworthy but less prolific posters?

For instance all access to the following:
Users who have made 100 posts
Users older than 2 months.

Re: Private board - Gettingolder - 12-11-2013

I like the time component idea too.
Emoticons can be pretty short replies too... 8)

As the current record holder for banal posts,  I do not feel threatened in the least.  Bring it, banal wannabees!!
