According to http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/college/chi-everett-golson-notre-dame-bowl-20131208,0,4045997.story

Quote:Golson will have to pay his own way to New York for any time spent with the team as well, though Kelly said the quarterback had a previously planned trip there to see his girlfriend.

That's too rich. Where to start...

This is probably the unpopular position around here but I'm mildly impressed that Golson took this route.

After being publicly kicked off the team, suspended from school and losing a year of playing time it would have been easy for him to sulk, transfer and start fresh next year somewhere other than ND.  From what I've heard he's owned up to his mistake and worked with the school to fix this. (My sources are ND connected so take this with a grain of salt .)

I fully expected Golson to opt for door #1 above.  With his athleticism there would have been elite schools willing to give him a soft landing.  Good for him to make the stand-up choice.

Remember, this was a 19 year old kid facing a very embarrassing and public failure.

Agree with Leftcoast.

I will say that the Legend of Golson was too exaggerated when he was playing there; it's only swelled since then. He's only an OK QB.

Here comes the bogus Redemption Narrative.  Now we're going to hear about the tremendously wonderful Golson and his Return to the Irish.  Hand me that air sickness bag.
