Wow .... What has SF Gate/Chron done to their mobile site?  That page was close to unreadable on an IPhone due to its multiple ads overlaying the content.  Some didn 't have go away boxes making me guess on the words at the end of each line.  Yuck !

Anyway, without Bright it looks like another rough conference run for Stanford.1

Shouldn't the subject line be "TomFitzGerald in fantasy land"?  Or would that suggest that a member of the media might have taken leave of his senses?

Look, I don't think losing Bright is going to be the difference between a lock to get to the Final four and another 9th-place Pac-12 finish.  And, just to be clear, this is definitely not a post arguing for any contract extension.

Still, the only portion of that "fantasy land" quote actually attributed to Dawkins is fairly reasonable, at least based on what I've seen so far, given that Sanders is out for the season, neither of the Allen twins looks like they're world-beaters [yet], and not having Bright in the game to work with [as opposed to be replaced by] Brown and/or Randle gives us fewer options on offense than if he were still playing.

The second portion of the quote -- and the one with which you appear to take umbrage -- looks to me to be FitzGerald's take on the situation.  But, like Wilner, he's a journalist, so he can't be wrong, ... right?

And, even if those ARE Dawkins' comments, I certainly wouldn't expect [or want] him to throw Bright under the bus [which, of course, would really make that shoulder hurt...  ;D ] by saying or even implying that he wasn't much good so losing him was no big deal.  That would be sort of like saying you knew you couldn't really compete because your point guard was so slow.  But what coach would say that...?

Yeah, I'm thinking this is just coach-speak, along the lines of how unblockable Kevin Anderson is or whatever.

Just one opinion, but I'd say Powell is the only irreplaceable guy, whose "wins above replacement" would be more than 1 or 2 on a well coached team.  I hate to parse a small quote, but the "we'll just have to manage" type attitude is not really what you want to hear.  He could be taking a totally different attitude with the team which is most important, though.

Who is the "Johnny Dawkins" of whom you speak?
