Football Writers' All America team - 5 Stanford players -
terry - 12-18-2013
The Football Writers Association (FWAA) named five Stanford players to its All America team:
First Team -- David Yankey, Trent Murphy
Second Team -- Shayne Skov, Ed Reynolds, Ty Montgomery
This makes David Yankey a unanimous All American.Â
Congrats to all.

I'd like to nominate Murphy to first team all-snub.
First he gets passed over for the finalist of the Butkus and Bednarik awards.
Then he gets passed over by the coaches for Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year, even though most observers would note that he had a better season than Sutton (who is a great player, to be sure).
Then he got jipped out of getting a unanimous all-American selection by getting selected to the second team of the AP All-American team.
But congrats to Yankey, who is a unanimous AA, and to Murphy and Montgomery, who are consensus AA.

It is awesome to see Ty Montgomery getting all of this love for his kick returns. I wish there was also some recognition for special teams blockers because (as I'm sure he'd attest) they opened up some damn big holes for him to run through. Our kick return blocking is unbelievable, you almost expect us to be on the 40 every time. Â

Knowing voters, I don't think Murphy has a shot at making that list either...I sure am glad to have him on the Stanford defense though. Opposing coaches can rest easy that we don't have a consensus AA aimed at their OL. Please by all means, as the Pac-12 coaching staffs if we don't have deserving talent on that DL.
