Rose Bowl Cardboard meet up - fullmetal - 12-21-2013
Is it about time to plan one of these?
(My flight doesn't make it into LAX until 8:30PM on 12/31 :(Â Sigh...poor planning.)

We arrive Monday afternoon and are heading right to Santa Monica Pier for the pep rally. The post rally food at the Mexican place on the pier seems like the logical place for a meet up. BJ's pub in Century City is the official Stanford meet up location on NYE but I don't think it extends to midnight or is a NYE party. We already have plans for NYE so we won't be going to BJ's. it looks like it will be more difficult getting a group together with these times and locations. Maybe a Tobythevan tailgate meetup?!Â

My default suggestion is going to be the official alumni tailgate, actually. Is there enough interest for a Toby tailgate meetup?

I don't get my ticket until Monday evening, so I'm not driving down until Tuesday morning. Isn't the alumni tailgate kind of large for a meetup? How will we know one another if we haven't met?

If you go to the Rose Bowl from West Los Angeles or Santa Monica, approach from the north. As in, take the I-134 east but then take State Route 2 north up to the I-210 and take that south toward the Rose Bowl. From there, just follow the signs to the Rose Bowl parking lot. While that route is not as direct, it's the one advised by the official Rose Bowl site, and it was astounding how clear and easy that drive was. Taking the 134 straight into Pasadena takes you into gridlock city.

That's the route I took last year, even coming from Long Beach, which is almost directly south of Pasadena. No traffic at all on the freeways, but there was still the expected gridlock once you hit the surface streets. All in all, it wasn't too bad.

I will be at the alumni tailgate. Most likely in the 90's section, though I will drag my dad over to the 60's section as well. IF a formal meet up is planned I would love to put some real faces with fake names :).

garvin's doing the Toby the Van tailgate, and a number of us will be at the official 'gater...we could all meet up at Toby's location maybe 45 min before kickoff? Is that enough time?

Toby has posted on his site that they will post their location as early as possible on Wednesday morning. I stopped by last year, but I don't remember if it was on purpose or by accident. Regardless, I'm sure it will be easy to find.

I'll be wearing one of martyup's 100th Rose Bowl shirts, possibly with a blue Olympic zip up jacket on top. If you see an Asian guy, about 5'9", wearing glasses and looking like he's had 4 hrs of sleep, give him a yell :)
