Garvin, I know this was a tough one, but we really need your game summary.  Your summaries are always so well written and thoughtful.  With all of the hyperbole being thrown around on this board, we really need you to put a period on this game.  I've come to look forward to your summaries and I need it to achieve closure on this devastating loss.

Re: We need you Garvin - oman - 01-01-2014

You must wean yourself of the Garvin teat.

Vodka helps ease the sharp dagger of hyperbole.

Maybe, but I don't drink.  So . .  I'm eating my daughter's birthday cake.

Re: We need you Garvin - GoodGrief - 01-01-2014

Funny, I know exactly what you're talking about. I stopped reading the espn recaps after I realized that Garvin's summaries were more insightful and made me feel much closer to the game. There was one Norte Dame game a coupla years ago when Garvin didn't write a summary, and I felt like I had no closure (and that was a win).

After a Stanford loss, I find myself compulsively reading message boards, seeking company in my misery. Mostly I'm hoping somebody can write something that can magically turn back time either in reality or in my head. I never seem to find it though.

GoodGrief, were you able to watch the game?

Re: We need you Garvin - martyup - 01-02-2014

I'm still hurting from this loss . . . literally.  I actually think I pulled a muscle in my back jumping up from my recliner when we made that pick 6.

My lower body is really sore in ways that I don't understand. Maybe those weird-ass bleacher seats screwed them up? Maybe the 5-hour drive home combined with that made them unhappy? I dunno, because this is the first time I've been sore after a game, including last year's Rose Bowl. It's strange.

I'm also definitely having the continuous waves of sadness, and had some trouble sleeping last night. But it's way better than after the loss to USC. The dumb thing is that I kept thinking "I feel really good about this game, then again I felt that way about USC..." Clearly a sign...

I'm a little mopey and still hanging around LA for a few days.  Glad to have the sunshine though.  I'm also sore all over, probably from standing up, sitting down, and being literally tense the whole game.

FM, if you are in town on Saturday night, check out the Gene Taylor Blues Band at McCabes in Santa Monica.  Gene Taylor is a terrific rhythm and blues, boogie woogie pianist.  You will recognize the guy playing lead guitar too.

You should know better than to watch a big Stanford game in a recliner. An office chair tilted forward with the back locked is much safer. It's not as relaxing, but you're not going to relax anyway.
