Stanford\'s 41 point win was the biggest margin of victory for either team in the 81 game history of the Stanford-Washington series. Stanford won by 40 points in 1893 and 1949.

Stanford\'s defense allowed just 107 yards. That\'s the second fewest yards allowed ever by Stanford, as far back as these records go.

Actually, it may have been Stanford\'s best defensive performance ever. The only time Stanford has allowed fewer yards was in 1971 vs. San Jose State when we allowed 80 yards, but we lost that game, 13-12. Rod Garcia missed 5 field goals in that game, allegedly because he was one toke over the line . . .

I\'ve seen the score but hadn\'t heard (or at least don\'t remember) the story.   Well, at least not THAT possible cause. 

Thirteen to twelve?!!?!   Did he also miss the extra points?

According to news articles, Garcia attempted one extra point in the San Jose State game, which he missed.

Stanford must have attempted a two-point conversion after the other TD, I guess.

But if we had to choose between Garcia having a bad day for the SJS game and having a bad day on 1/1/72 -- we would have chosen exactly what happened. (I say that as someone whose only game seen in person that year was the SJS game, which was a major bummer at the time...)
