Interesting Amazon purchase - BrevinsBest - 02-18-2014

If that Toyota Prius just isn't doing it for you anymore, this interesting machine might strike your fancy. For those who don't know, this looks like the vehicle the LSJUMB drives around campus:

As a side note, the product review are quite entertaining.

Looks like a miniature version of Jabba's barge.

Re: Interesting Amazon purchase - stupac2 - 02-18-2014

I'm curious what search took you there.

I linked the add to my FB, the return sentiment has been that it needs a turret.

And if you haven't already, check out the customer reviews. Great fun.

And also take a peek at the "Customers who viewed this item also viewed..." section:

Fresh whole rabbit -- $59.50
Best of David Hasselhoff -- No price (priceless?)
Uranium Ore -- $39.95

Dude,
How did you get my Burning Man and Big Game at Memorial supply list?

Cheers,

Great minds think alike.  Definitely Jabba's barge and not a Jawa Sandcrawler.

You know, the Uranium ore on Amazon gets ragged on all the time, but I actually considered buying it. I ended up going with the ore from United Nuclear because they offer count rate information, and I think it was a bit cheaper.

Lest anyone think I'm some sort of mad scientist, I wanted it because I do a lot of work that involves radon exposure to samples and examining mitigation techniques. I work in ultra-low background alpha particle counting, and a single atom of radon can seriously affect results at this level. We used to have a 5 kBq radon source, but an un-thinking coworker put it in a vacuum tube and, well, now we don't. It also turns out that those sources are illegal to buy unless you have crazy-ass licenses that we are too small to really afford, so I can't just buy a new one (which is sort of crazy, unless you ate it that source wouldn't be dangerous, and the Cs gamma sources we have would probably be worse). So I wanted to use Uranium ore, which should be in rough equilibrium throughout the decay chain, to act as a new source. Unfortunately the ore samples were far less active, more like 200 Bq max, though it's hard to measure. I miss my old source. Though I am currently using the new rocks for an experiment, we'll see how that goes...

Now why in the world would anyone think you're a mad scientist? The idea that you were a scientist never crossed my mind  ;)

BC...clicking on that link and reading a review that long should have taken no more than a minute. It's now 15 minutes later and I'm still having difficulty regaining my composure. I'm pretty sure I got as far as....."a feeling I can only describe as like being given a barbed wire wedgie by two people intent on hitting the ceiling with my head"....before I completely lost it. After that my reading progressed at no more than a crawl since the tears literally kept clouding my vision. If other folks want a great laugh, check it out. It's a classic...should be in the hall of fame! Thanks!

I was at a candy shop and a woman asked the clerk if they sold "fat free sugarless candy".  I couldn't resist and said "I'm sorry lady, if that exists.  It isn't candy."

And,  no collection of entertaining product reviews could possibly be complete without

It's clearly just a matter of time before Amazon publishes these as a Kindle series. Personally, I can't wait for the reviews!
