Well, however you slice it, this was a lot better than nearly losing to USC in overtime.Â
Tim Young fun fact: I became a Golden State Warriors fan while at Stanford, and have seen some mighty lean years (I sure hope Stanford doesn't take as long to turn it around as the Warriors have). Part of this was due to absolutely dreadful drafting. Tim Young was the 27th pick of the 2nd round in the 1999 NBA draft by the Warriors, basically a "let's-throw-a-bone-to-the-local-kid, this-pick-is-totally-worthless" kind of a choice. The next pick (and next to last pick) in the draft that year: Manu Ginobili to the Spurs. @#$%!!!

We didn't play great, but we got a win and, more importantly, avoided losing to a team to which we absolutely could not afford to lose.Â
I can't complain about the margin, especially as no PAC-12 team has beaten USC by more that we just did except for UCLA way back on Jan. 5. USC has lost a lot in conference play, but they have not generally lost by this much.
Our upcoming schedule is
tough. In the remaining 5 games, we play only 1 team ranked lower than us -- Utah. The other four games are all against top 30 or so teams. 3-2 or better in these games secures a spot in the dance. A 2-3 run would not necessarily damn us but a lot would have to break right and we would need to win a couple games in the conference tournament. Â

Wesley will miss Sunday's game against the weenies as well.

I was at the game last night. I can't watch this team. One of my main problems with Stanford's offense is that there is absolutely no flow. It's just really hard to watch. Maples was about half empty (I'm going pessimist here since Dawkins is still the coach) and it was as quiet as a library.
Even before Powell got hurt, he was not being effectively. He should have been down low, taking advantage of the poor defensive from U*S*C*'s big men. Upon return from his injury, he was more aggressive and scored more points in the paint. Huestis is a great defender, with incredibly long arms, but his offense leaves a lot to be desired. I left with about 8 minutes left in the second half, as I could watch no longer.

6. Claremont McKenna
If we are thinking nationally, it should be the University of Seventeenth Choice. I'm sure there are at least 16 schools, intelligent people would prefer.
In my case, it would have been the University of Seventy Ninth Choice. I know I'm on the record here as hating them more than anybody else here, even Spiny who made an excellent case for his hatred. But I have to confess there are circumstances that I would have chosen to gone there. They do have good weather and lots of pretty girls. So maybe Spiny hates them more than me after all.
7. Any school in San Diego, including DeVry Institute.
8. Any school in San Francisco, including Academy of Art College and bankrupt City College.

10. Any school along the Central Coast, including Learning Annex Golf lessons at a public course.Â
Also, the attractive women at SC are Fembots. It would be like trying to date the women on Fox News; a soul destroying bargain.Â
