WBB: Sked Strength vs. Rest of NCAA Field - FarmDad.01 - 03-15-2014

Here's an S-Curve predicated on how the AP and USA Today top baker's dozen teams fared against opponents seemingly assured of an invite; not included are games against one-bid conference schools.

01.  Leprachuans 17 - 0 (1.000)
02.  UConn         09 - 0 (1.000)
03.  Stanford       11 - 2 (0.846)
04.  Baylor       10 - 3 (0.769)
05.  W. Virginia   09 - 3 (0.750)
06.  Tennessee     13 - 5 (0.722)
07.  S. Carolina   09 - 4 (0.692)
08.  Duke         12 - 6 (0.667)
09.  N. Carolina   09 - 6 (0.600)
10.  Kentucky     09 - 7 (0.562)
11.  Nebraska     05 - 4 (0.555)
12.  Maryland     06 - 5 (0.545)
13.  Louisville     03 - 4 (0.428)

Of particular interest is how few tournament-bound teams Nebraska and Louisville played (with scant success), and how Maryland barely finished above .500 against them. In fact, Louisville beat up on so many patsies, but so few tourney teams, why is it in the discussion for even a #3 seed??

Rooting for the Cardinal to make it back to Maples, then two more victories and a trip to F4.

Great post, thanks

Yes - had not seen that kind of interesting data. Thanks.

Goes to show the power of ESPN (the board should auto-correct to some derogatory term like, "the dark side") because their announcers say Louisville should be a #1 seed over us but will probably get a #2 seed in their own Regional and are worried that means UConn might have to go to Louisville as the #1 and have to beat them a 4th time.

agreed, great information. If it's not used for ranking purposes, then maybe it comes in handy as a measure of how prepared they are for the tough games in the tournament. Louisville has been challenged by having to play UConn 3 times but clearly they're not scheduling tough opponents outside the conference, which at the end of the day one would expect to be a factor....let's all keep our fingers crossed that our team is VERY hungry, because we know they have the ability!
