The Joe V. Paterno award is an inaugural award being presented to a coach for outstanding achievement on the field.

What a difference four years make. I hope that they renamed the award. And thank goodness, the award wasn't presented to a coach for outstanding achievement off the field.

The award was given one time before it was discontinued. Frank Beamer was the sole recipient of the award.

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford head football coach Jim Harbaugh has been named one of 15 semifinalists for the inaugural Joe V. Paterno Award, which honors a head coach for outstanding achievement on the field, his program's success in the classroom and community involvement.
The award is presented by the Maxwell Football Club in honor of the legendary Penn State football coach.
The three finalists for the award will be announced on Monday, December 6 with the winner being named on December 18.
