WAAAAY OT: Tokyo Disney Sea - Bruce Wang - 04-25-2014

Until last night, I didn't even know of its existence.  There's a sea-themed Disney amusement park in Tokyo.  The backstory is interesting.  Disney had developed this concept for Long Beach, but decided to build California Adventure instead.  They resurrected the concept for their partner in Japan, Oriental Land (the owner of Tokyo Disney).

Apparently the amusement parknoscenti consider it the best amusement park in the world.  Has anybody here been?  Is it really that good?  If it is, maybe I should take Publiette to Tokyo rather than Orlando.

Well, at least one notable person has tried to go there. Kim Jang-nam, older brother of Kim Jong-Un, was caught in 2001 trying to sneak into Japan to go to Disney-Tokyo. Apparently this is the one thing that can actually shame the ruling family of North Korea, as this seems to have been the major impetus in Jang-nam falling out of favor and Jong-Un taking over as heir and eventually Supreme Leader and Most Dear Paranoid of North Korea.

Jamg-nam now lives in exile in Macau, where he is noted for love of gambling. Not clear if he has made it to Disneyland.

I'm not talking about Tokyo Disneyland.  It's Tokyo DisneySea.  Of course Son of Kim, may have also tried to go to both parks.

Look at these pictures.  Oriental Land (the owner of Tokyo Disneyland) spared no expense building this thing.

Indeed, I was confused and hadn't realized they were separate.

In my defense, apparently they are at the same place (Tokyo Disney Resort), and DisneySea opened in 2001 - the same year Kim junior got caught. Maybe he was trying to see the new Park?

Place looks awesome.  Totally worth giving up the chance to be a dictator.

Thanks for sharing that.  We are Disney fanatics and we also had never heard of DisneySea.  We are members of the Disney Vacation Club and just took a 12 day trip to Disney World.  Last Fall we hit the Aulani Resort on Oahu, which we highly recommend.  Never a problem going off topic when Disney is involved.
