2015 WBB recruits/acceptances -
Jskass - 05-01-2014
wondering if anyone knows when the first acceptances for our 2015 recruits happen...and whether we should be hearing anything soon. I seemed to recall in the past hearing the first news in May?

Why would the women's basketball players (and men for that matter) be accepted in Spring of their Junior years when the football players have to wait it out until January of their Sr year? Are all of our women recruits up to par academically at this point, while very few football players are?

It has nothing to do with gender it has all to do with LOI dates. Basketball is Nov FB is Feb.Â
Several athletes have been accepted I posted about Hodson but there are more. Earliest acceptances were Feb Jr year.Â
Yes we should hear of more soon although the majority by far would be June on with 6th semester gradesÂ

didn't see post on Hodson. Player not listed in ESPN's top 60. June makes sense -- plus I saw at least one of our top recruits' as having scheduled a Stanford visit for late May.

Hayley Hodson is a top WVB player.

Think it was Faith Suggs who was visiting us last (late May) but not 100 pct sure bcs I saw it a while ago.

Suggs:

Good one. I would bet 5 or so on May officials to Stanford, but I only know of one other at this point.Â

Still hoping for Erica O 2015 and maybe Olivia walk-on next year too.

I wonder if Tara's rule, first acceptance then official stills holds with the new rule of officials staring now April 1 of Jr year.  I assume so but hadn't thought of it until a friend commented this AM.Â

Good explanation for this wait. I just keep my fingers crossed as I check the boards since we have 2 top ten possibilities for 2015, though the common views for KLS aren't as optimistic as we'd prefer! Hope that she and Lambert at the end of the day value the whole experience and degree of Stanford above ND/UConn and South Carolina. Would be great if C Rice can serve as advisor to the latter, as she did to Chiney!!!!
As an aside I do find it hard to conceive of kids that are smart and industrious to achieve GPAs above 4.20 not valuing the education enough to turn us down for a second tier school. I know it has happened (Sue Bird?) because basketball was one's life, but things happen and a great degree can also create a terrific back-up plan. I think Beebe was top ten when she signed and sad story but she will have a Stanford education and degree.

While we wait, UConn snagged its second top-10 recruit in a week. It could be good for us, though, in the long run. The two commits for UConn are two wings, which means there might not be room in the rotation for KLS.

The Boneyard and John Altavilla seem to think that UConn is now a heavy favorite for Katie Lou. I hope not. I think the whole country is getting tired of UConn, and frankly it has reached the point where it is not good for the game. At least they lost Aja Wilson to South Carolina. The ranks of the competitive teams not named UConn is growing.

Two off the board
Suggs to Duke
Berryman to Youngstown State
That Suggs story was Feb or so
Berryman highly ranked but in a off year for posts.  Suggs who knows and brings up the admittance question but I don't know.Â
If course sometimes this is good news as in we were recruiting them hard.
Re Lou. A UConn strong lean but won't decide for months? Huh?

Interesting...you would think she would verbally commit if she made her decision. The ESPNW article indicated she did want to make her decision sooner than later, so hopefully she's still undecided and waiting to visit the other campuses. I am still holding out hope a Stanford degree and 2 years playing with Karlie will persuade her to come to the Farm.

If you are a top girls basketball player and you want to win, it is hard to resist UConn. Not only the championship banners, but the way they simply dominate opponents. I think it was an interview with Geno during the NCAA tournament when he was talking about playing in the NCAA tournament and how teams usually think about surviving to the next round, while they focus on dominating their opponent and sending a warning to the other teams. If you have a high competitive drive and if you are a top-10 recruit upon the thousands of high school basketball players around the country, that sounds pretty good.
It's just the mentality of the program that sets UConn apart and if you want to be the best and set records, Storrs is really compelling. For example, during the first game with California-Berkeley this past season, we were dominating them, we couldn't miss, they were reeling and we were up by 30 with 13:35 left to go. Then, I am not sure if it was a conscious thing or unconscious thing, but we started getting tentative, whether it was because we relaxed or started feeling sorry for them, we let them stage an improbable comeback and almost lost in an embarrassing fashion. If it was UConn, they would have finished them off and stomp out any hope of a comeback.

understood though still hope that an 18 year old who is very intelligent can also weigh the importance of where you get the degree, in case you want to do anything else in your life besides basketball.
So given the Suggs news, not sure whom we have left among our recruits in the top 2015 (per ESPN site) other than KLS and Kyra Lambert, either or both of which would be wonderfully additive. Just tough in May to be a dedicated Stanford fan when other players are coming "off the board" right and left, and we don't have any commits yet, but I am confident that we'll be rewarded for our patience, and have the coaching staff to make the most of every athlete who makes the wise choice to come here!
Agree with an ESPN poster who said that if Duke can't hit the F4 in the next 2 years, their coach would be to blame. They get an amazing array of talent that we'd like but chooses them/gets admitted to Duke but not Stanford...

Duke definitely has a lot of talent, but it's interesting the current status of women's college basketball. As 2-time defending champions, UConn is definitely a step (or two or three) ahead of everyone else, but then you have a lot of top teams vying for the spots right behind them...Duke, N.D., Tennessee, South Carolina, us, and you can see UCLA making a big step forward with their #1 recruiting class this upcoming year, Texas is also recruiting very well, Texas A&M is always in there, Louisville is not going away either...
