I don't get the Vikes draft strategy. First they draft a good but not great LB in Anthony Barr. Then they go for Teddy Bridgewater at the end of the first round. Yeah, I get that Christian Ponder is looking like a dud. Teddy is a good pick, Barr is not. Then they go DE with Scott Crichton. I guess that's what you get after Murphy is gone (could have had Murph earlier then Skov later, haha). But then a Georgia Southern RB? Really? That's who you choose to back up AP? You could have had James White (Wisco), Andre Williams (BC), DAT, Ka'Deem Carey, or Devonta Freeman (FSU) instead. But maybe there's a story there I don't know that involves a third-round draft pick not being as valuable as I think.
And finally, they pick up Yankey. Man I hope Yankey destroys all opposition and stays healthy.Â
Who was picked up ahead of Yankey? A bunch of guys from traditional powerhouse-type schools (USBx2, UCLA, LSU, Miami, Clemson, MS St.)...so maybe pedigrees still matter. But two picks before Yankey, the Bucs picked up a guard from Tennessee State. Baffling.

I was hoping the Colts would have to choose between Yankey and a safety....

Bill Polian with some interesting comments on Yankey:
Quote:On Stanford guard David Yankey, who was drafted by the Vikings at No. 145 overall: "When you are blocking at Stanford, you are blocking for the running game. When you are blocking in Minnesota, you are blocking for AP. What you have to do is get a body on a body. This is a brobdingnagian body, a big truck who can move. He's tough, he's brobdingnagian, he's a better athlete than you think and he's pro-ready. I would not be surprised if he steps in and plays early. He is not a tackle. He's a run-blocking guard and those people are valuable in the NFL."

From the same piece RE Coach Shaw:
Quote:The College Coach With a Big Future in Television: Stanford's David Shaw. It's ridiculous how comfortable Shaw is in front of the camera and for the second year in a row, he was a great addition to the NFL Network.
