Perhaps this has been mentioned somewhere, but Skov was not drafted, at least to my knowledge. This has to be quite a blow to that young man. I'm confident, though, he will make it somewhere. I don't think he should have attempted the 40 at the stanford pro day...

It is incomprehensible to me that Skov didn't get drafted based on his ability. I have to think there was something off the field that was a major red flag.

That site has Hewitt to the Bengals, btw. Didn't they take Marecic as a UDFA too?

Does it matter whether he was drafted or an UDFA? Doug Baldwin's ring is identical to Richard Sherman's.

His paycheck isn't. (Even before the extension.)

No, but if the 154th overall pick can use a low pick to work his way into becoming the highest paid corner in the NFL, an undrafted LB can use the same fire to at least earn the salary that a 154th pick did.

This post from Bear Insider:
"I have mixed feelings about Skov as a person.
He just lost his mother after a prolonged degeneration due to MS.
He has had a somewhat difficult life.
But, unfortunately, I think he uses that as justification to be dirty on the field and the officials have let him get away with it.
None of this has anything to do with why he was not drafted. But, if you followed the draft, there were many stories that could not really be explained.
For example, absolutely nobody understands why the Cleveland Browns did not draft a WR.
Similarly, many players went way lower than expected. For example, Marion Grice, who was one of the best RBs in the pac-12 last year, went late in the 6th round. And Dion Bailey (safety USC) did not get drafted either.
Welcome to the world of executive metrics. The scouting of talent has gotten very abstract to the point where a player's college career is almost irrelevant.
If I was a GM, I would have drafted Shayne no later than 4th round and maybe as high as 2nd round. I've never seen another player, at any level, time a blitz better than Skov. And he is a natural born leader whose skill set translates to the NFL."

How many PFs was Skov flagged for in his college career? Regardless of the answer to that question, it's a bit disingenuous to call Skov a dirty player. Intense and playing on the edge, yes. Dirty, no. Cal fans would have absolutely wet themselves to have Skov on their team. That is a fact.
When the Niners drafted Chris Borland, my immediate thought was "I'd rather have Shayne Skov." Now everyone gets to see those two go head-to-head. When Khari Fortt was drafted, my immediate thought was "Khari Fortt? Before Shayne Skov, are you kidding me? Skov has an impressive resume of on field production. Fortt has hardly done a thing."
And look at these rankings one day before draft:
http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospectrankings/2014/ILB
The fact Seantrel Henderson was drafted is mind bending, but it's yet another proof how the draft, even in the 7th round, is about projecting upside potential, more than anything else. Henderson, for those who aren't aware...
