Re: IRA Regatta Results - fullmetal - 05-30-2014

It's been a rough regatta...many lineup changes throughout the season and inexperience were major contributing factors.  Both Stanford boats will race in the C/D semifinals, ensuring that they will finish no higher than 13th place overall in their respective events.  The Stanford varsity are the favored boat in their semifinal, but the second varsity are only 'seeded' third in their semifinal.

The lightweight women will row their heats Saturday (the 8+ is favored in their heat--an extremely strong Radcliffe boat is the favorite in the other heat).  Should they not win their heat, the repechage will occur early Saturday afternoon.

Re: IRA Regatta Results - Mick - 05-31-2014

I'm in a hotel in Plainsboro that is packed with people wearing orange and black, but along with the Tigers are a bunch of Cal crew types.  The lightweight eight was dining there early this morning.  They won their heat.  Cal's doing pretty well at the IRA, they've won 4 of their 10 heats so far.  Stanford doesn't have a heat win yet.  Washington looks good with five heat wins.  Hahvahd has only one heat win in a dozen races; the Winklevi must be disappointed.

Re: IRA Regatta Results - fullmetal - 05-31-2014

The heats, repechages, and semifinals are all over, so that's that.  The Stanford men won both of their C/D semifinals today, which ensures a final finish of anywhere from 13th through 18th places for each of the boats (varsity eight, second varsity eight) in the third-level final.  The Stanford lightweight women won both of their heats this morning in the eight and the four, which means they didn't have to race the repechages this afternoon.  They'll be seeded well in tomorrow's grand finals.

It will probably be either kal or UW winning the varsity eight and thus the team points trophy, I think.

Harvard is still top-heavy with talent, but gone are the days when they swept all events.  (Washington has been the most recent team to sweep all events.)

IRA Regatta Final Results - Mick - 06-01-2014

kal's frosh 8 finished second to Washington, their men's varsity eight finished third behind Washington and Brown, their second varsity beat Princeton in the final, their third varsity beat Washington in the finals.  kal's varsity 4 finished third behind Washington and Brown.  Good day for da Bears.

Re: IRA Regatta Results - fullmetal - 06-02-2014

Washington still took home the overall points trophy (Ten Eyck Trophy).  And bragging rights always goes to the victor in the varsity eight.  Third place is a blow to kal's expectations, which were high after beating UW in their semifinal.  But Stanford would love to have that kind of depth and speed.
