Supposedly an announcement at noon PT.

The juiciest rumor that I could find after a brief Google search: "Multiple starters expelled from the university for sleeping with a female student manager and she did all their homework."

If the rumors are true, then suspending current players and reducing future scholarships is the only punishment with any teeth. I don't really get the point of vacating wins two years after the games are played. Doesn't change the fact that Stanford (should not have) lost a heartbreaker and UND played in the national championship game that season.

To recap, the Brian Kelly era has seen:

1) A kid dying on his watch
2) A botched rape investigation
3) Two separate (as far as we know) instances of academic fraud.

How can they continue to employ this guy? The buck stops there, doesn't it?

According to ND's Rivals site depth chart, the players in question are:
Starting senior WR
Starting junior CB
Starting senior DE
4th-string senior LB

Per the box score for our game in South Bend, WR DeVaris Daniels caught two passes for 24 yards that day.

Because he was winning football games, and that's all they care about. Though this may force their hands.

Hopefully they get hit with some major sanctions, but the NCAA is too spineless to do that.

As the schadenfreude and giddy rubbernecking subsides, will Stanford capitalize on this disaster in the class of 2015 and beyond?

In the near term, are there any ND commits who could be Stanford-qualified? 

In the longer term, does this do anything to strengthen the Stanford value proposition, or are ND recruits really not going to be influenced by the fact ND football players really aren't interested in being educated, as much as staying eligible and getting a degree for the sake of getting one?  I mean anyone serious about education knows cheating on tests is only cheating yourself.  Those who value learning and competing in the classroom, don't cheat.

Someone with more knowledge of NCAA regulations can clarify this but I was under the impression that in case of violations and sanctions and such... the wins are merely vacated from the records of the team that violated the rules. I was not aware that the wins are actually awarded to the opponents records.

Anyone care to clear this up? Would be awesome to have the true result of our game against ND in 2012 on the record.

[font=georgia]The Irish already had taken big graduation hits, including seven NFL draft picks.

They lost their two terrific DLs, Louis Nix (3rd round) and Stephan Tuitt (2nd), plus starting OLB Prince Shembo (4th) and ILB Dan Fox and their two best CBs other than Russell in Bennett Jackson (6th) and Lo Wood. 

On offense, they lost QBs Tommy Rees and Andrew Hendrix, RB George Atkinson, top WR T.J. Jones, ace TE Troy Niklas (2nd), starting OLs Zach Martin (1st), Chris Watt (3rd) and Christian Lombard.

This leaves them without the three leading receivers last year—Jones, Niklas, and Daniels--and with only seven or eight returning offensive starters.  Entering this fall, only one FBS team, Utah State, had fewer than eight returning starters.

A win at South Bend seems more likely now.

We don't get a win, our record can never be better than 12-2 for that year. What will happen is that ND's record goes to 0-1. I believe this is how it works.
