Fun read from Stanfordscout.com - Rally - 09-02-2014

"But, hey, nuanced explanations don’t sell papers (or subscriptions), so this is a first for me, but here goes: Stanford will play for, and win, the national title. Let me be one of the first ones on a bandwagon that I imagine will be quite a bit more crowded come Saturday night."

Hmmm. - Redrum - 09-02-2014

I don't think the  author's  case  (in linked article) for Barry Sanders has been made at all.  Based on the ooh-ing and ahh-ing since he came to Stanford,  you'd think we'd already uncovered the next Gerhart or Gaffney.  This is what we have this season to date:

                              Carries  Yds                Avg.        Longest
Sanders,B      1 7     43    0    43 6.1 0 17     43.0
Young,K          1 7     37    0 37 5.3 0 12     37.0

Sample size and game time just too limited.  I wish we knew who was going to be The Man for us, but I don't know.  Against USC's speed,  I can see Sanders'  style and talent not proving to be a decisive factor.  In the end,  it's the runner who can exploit what our rebuilding O-Line will provide for him ...and I don't think the OL's  UC Davis film room time with the coaches today was very much fun.  Maybe sooner than we'd like it will become clear that no back can or will separate themselves from group.  That'd be depressing as hell.

Whoa, ferrari!  Downshift into a lower gear.  I think Redrum was just commenting on the article.  The author did seem to lock on Sanders as the de facto "go to" back and I think Redrum's on point about that being a little premature.

ferrari's beef is with me, not Redrum.

Oh.
Never mind.

Yeah, but didn't you share it to see what other folks' reactions to it would be?  I enjoyed the article and am largely oblivious to the source.  I just like someone making a statement that Stanford can win the National Championship.  I think we can, but the realist in me is pretty hard to calm down.  It's nice to get external validation.

I shared it for two reasons only.  Because the last paragraph made me smile (hence the title of my post) and to discuss his other opinions.  I have removed my offending post.  No post here offended me and I didn't mean to give that impression.  My post elicited a little bit of what I considered hate mail and I knee-jerked a response to that.  All is well.  All sorts of things are so grim in the world, can't we just enjoy the season?  Thanks.

Hulk01 is betting big on this year's team as well, and there's no reason not to do so thus far (guess what my predicted team W-L record was this year).  We'll see what the team's made of after this weekend...
