I guess to fill in for San Jose State next year? Seems like it must've been some kind of desperation, though I guess that could be a fun road trip for people nearby...

Recruiting bonanza.

Seems like a very poor scheduling choice to me. UCF isn't bad enough that we destroy them every year, and are rarely good enough to give us very much credit if we beat them.

I don't like this. Washingtonismoney is right about this. I don't like this kind of opponent. And with this kind of opponent, I don't like the fact that we're agreeing to travel to their place. We must have been desperate to find another home game for 2015.
We will get some recruiting exposure in the southeast, so there's that. I suppose that for Stanford fans who haven't been to Orlando, it might be an interesting road trip. But I've been there often enough. Maybe I'll use it as an excuse for a trip to some other part of the southeast.

They won the Fiesta Bowl last year and finished the season ranked #10 in the AP. They almost beat Penn State last week, Sagarin has them at 45. Maybe you guys don't think much of them, but the folks on the selection committee should view them as the tough opponent they are (certainly compared to an FCS or low level MWC team). Our SOS just took a big jump, and
in theory that matters now.Â
Plus, Florida recruiting. Isn't playing more games in the South for exposure what people want?

Will they still be at that level of success in 2019? The odds seem against it.

Maybe not, but you could say that about any team we schedule. And in 2015 I would be surprised if they deviated much from where they've been the past 5 years. Maybe we shouldn't schedule anyone 10 years out because they might be terrible then. Or maybe no one should schedule us, because we might be terrible again (like say 8 years ago), god forbid.

So the home schedule next season will include:
Central Florida
Notre Dame
Oregon
UCLA
Cal
Washington
one from among Arizona, ASU and Colorado
Man, at this point that lineup looks to be as tough as barbed wire. Season ticket holders will certainly get their money's worth.

You could say that about any team we schedule, to some extent. I mean, it's more likely that Texas or Michigan will be good in 5 years than a team like UCF, but you never really know. I think it makes sense to think of it like the rule about making plans in a relationship: don't make a plan farther in the future than the amount of time you've been together. So we shouldn't expect UCF to be good in 5 years because they've been pretty inconsistent over the last 5. No idea if this is statistically true but it feels truthy to me.
Anyway, I was just saying that we can't be thinking about what effects this will have on the playoff committee 5 years out because it's just way too uncertain.

This is a win-win result. UCF will raise its profile and SOS and get exposure to the California recruiting meat market. Stanford removes the UC Davis'es of its world, improves its SOS and gets exposure to the Florida/SEC market. The two teams do not compete for recruits in either market. Anybody in Florida who has the grades to get into Stanford will not select UCF over the Cardinal. In California, UCF will skim off a few 3***-4**** recruits that couldn't get into Stanford, but would easily get into any other Pac-12 school.

I will organize a CARDboard meetup at the Leaky Cauldron in 2019. First round of Butter Beers on me.

Knight fan here who comes in peace. Looking forward to seeing you guys next year. I try to make the higher profile away games and I have some family down in Santa Cruz I would love to visit while I'm over there. Hope to see y'all in Florida as well, we originally had a home and home with Penn St but had to move it to Ireland. Word was PSU was gonna buyout the home game if we hadn't.
Anything a potential Knight fan coming over need to know about the Stanford area? Y'all have friendly tailgate areas where anyone could sit down and chat with opposing fans?

While I would prefer a higher profile opponent, I am happy with any incursion into the South or Texas. I think we have done okay getting some southerners and I think we can do better. I think we already do fine in Texas.

Welcome, Ryan. I'll let those who frequent games in person advise you. You will enjoy the Farm.

I've generally heard good things about our tailgating area, but since I'm always in red it's hard to get the real picture. If you come back next year before the game I'm sure we can give you lots of advice.

I like this move. We increase our strength of schedule while still playing a very beatable team. We add recruiting exposure to a vital area. And finally, I'd much rather watch Stanford-UCF then Stanford-UC Davis or SJ state.
The only thing that would be better is if we scheduled a home and home with one of those perennially over-rated SEC teams. Like how Oregon somehow got a big boost in rep for trouncing a terrible Tennessee team last year.

I like it. Given how many of our games are already spoken for (9 Pac12 + ND) I would like to see the other two be teams we don't normally see.
I forgot the CCG. So our annual schedule is actually 10 Pac12 games. ;)

Count me among those that would much rather have seen us play a middling SEC squad. UCF is usually a good team without good name recognition.
