University of Central Florida on 2015 football schedule - needle - 09-07-2014

Stanford playing UCF at home Sept. 12 and in Orlando in 2019.

I like this better than Rice, certainly, but only slightly. If Stanford is going to play a non-power 5, I'd much rather stay west. If Stanford is going east, let's play somebody of decent quality in a big five conference.

But if the goal is to play in Florida (for recruiting reasons?), I suppose UCF isn't a bad choice. They've been respectable enough over recent years--BCS bowl last year--that they shouldn't hurt strength of schedule (unlike Army). And they had decent crowds last year of over 40,000.

What is the logic of scheduling Central Florida?  If we're going to that part of the country for the exposure or the recruiting, we should play Florida, FSU or Georgia Tech. If we lose (UCF can be pretty good) we look bad.  If we win, we don't gain much.

Good luck getting those teams to agree to a home-and-home, especially one that needed a home game next year. My guess is it was either this or Davis again.

Florida has not played a non-conference regular season road game west of the Mississippi since 1983.  In fact, the last time they played a true road game outside of the state of Florida was 1991.
