Lies, Damned Lies, and Steve Sarkisian -

I want to let it go, but Sarkisian won't let me.

Sarkisian says,"They know I want to win," Sarkisian said. "I came here to win. I'm a competitive guy. They know I'll do anything for them within the rules . . . . "
The riposte here is left to the reader.

And Sark continued, "and a few things outside the rules that I won't get into."

I suppose it would be better for our strength of schedule if USC goes on to run the table until we meet them again in the championship game.Â
But first, I cannot wish for that. I cannot wish for anything but unmitigated ill to befall them.Â
Second, I don't think it will happen anyway. I strongly suspect that Oregon State or Arizona State or both will come into LA and beat them at home, perhaps badly. But USC does have an easy schedule, and with UCLA looking rather mediocre, it all may come down to that Arizona State game in early October.
I've always hated SC because it is SC. Sometimes they have a coach that makes the hatred deserved, and sometimes they don't and then my hatred is just traditional.
Right now it is deserved.

I'm fairly certain Stanford's players and coaches are now highly motivated to face U$C again in the Pac-12 CG. They probably want nothing more than that.

I understand from where you are coming, 81alum, but I want nothing more than to meet these mofos in the P12 Championship Game and give them the scoreboard whipping they so richly deserve. If it means they have to run the table until then, so be it.

On the one hand, I agree that it would be better for SC to run the table, but here in Southern California, SC fans are insufferable. My guess is that UCLA churns out far more graduates than SC, but you'd never know it from looking around at all the SC flags and ---4USC license plates. Plus, I can't think of any obnoxious UCLA fans; I know tons of SC fans who fit that description. So I guess I'd like to see SC and UCLA go undefeated the rest of the way, then I'd love to see the Bruins lay a whipping on the Troyans. A week later we beat the Bruins and head to the Rose Bowl for the National Semifinals.

I dunno, there are plenty of insufferable UCLA fans I know, and I imagine it's going to get worse if they continue to be a strong program.
That being said, USC fans are in a league of their own. Fortunately, I think even if they beat us 10 years in a row, the 24-23 game and the double nickels game have been so indelibly burned into their psyche that any gloating they do is tempered in the back of their minds by the knowledge that simply whispering the name of Tavita Pritchard or Jim Harbaugh will cause them to melt and/or return to the alternate dimension from which they came (aka Orange County).

As an avid everything U$C sports hater, and almost everything otherwise U$C hater, I'm willing to do the unthinkable. I will suspend my natural instincts and better judgment for the greatest opportunity of my lifetime to:
1. See Stanford win a third consecutive PAC-12 football crown
2. Humble the U$C fan base (worse than the biggest upset ever in 2007)
3. Enjoy the greatest schadenfreude moment in my sports fandom experience
4. Watch Stanford gain a berth in the first college football playoff...
all at U$C's expense, by seeing Stanford deliver the score board beating in the 2014 Pac-12 CG to match the on-field one Stanford has administered in the last two games.
I will root for U$C to win every game this year up to the PAC-12 CG, until Stanford has been eliminated from being in it.Â
Any other Stanford fans have the intestinal fortitude to root for the "un-rootable" if it would mean a Stanford-U$C rematch in the PAC-12 CG?

At this point, our chances of winning the Pac12 north are extremely slim, so I would find it hard to root for U.SC to win, knowing that it likely sets them up for a chance to win the Pac12 and go to the play off.
A side question: would U.SC winning the South and/or the Pac12 championship actually improve their recruiting? Their bowl ban, schoarship limitations and uneven performance the past few years doesn't seem to have hurt them with blue chip recruits to date. Is the draw of U.SC that impervious to negative factors and news?

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but Stanford's chances of winning the Pac-12 North aren't significantly diminished after last Saturday. Stanford was always going to have to go into Eugene and beat Oregon to win the North. I still think they can do that. As disappointed as I was in the results Saturday, I saw enough to think this team has the talent to run the table from here on out. So let's do it. Beat Oregon in Eugene, win the tiebreaker and destroy USC in the Pac-12 championship game, delivering the payback they so richly deserve. It's on.

It would be gratifying for Stanford to win the Pac 12 title this way. But, the last thing I want to see is USC getting closer to another dynasty.

I want to see a USC death-spiral. I don't care about things like strength of schedule derived from our opponents. I want to see chaos on their sidelines, chaos on the field, chaos back on their campus. I want to see Haden on TV doing the perp walk. I want to see star players transfer with quotes about "back stabbing" and head coaches without principles. I want to see Sarkisian trying to rebuild his reputation by taking a junior college asst. coach position. I want columns of smoke rising from their athletic dept.
"Towards thee I roll, thou all-destroying but unconquering whale; to the last I grapple with thee; from hells heart I stab at thee; for hates sake I spit my last breath at thee."
Other than that, I'm good.

Yes, we were always going to have to beat Oregon in Autzen, which is a brobdingnagian challenge in itself. Now, however, we need to make sure we don't trip up again in any other Pac12 games. If we beat Oregon but then lose to UCLA, UW or any other foe, we then are at the mercy of Oregon losing another game. Running the table over 9 games is extremely hard to do. Running the table over 8 games is only slightly easier. And given our difficult road schedule, losing at home is a big punch in the gut.

As it probably has been made clear, I'm on board with these objectives. But honestly, nothing would make me happier than seeing "them" get one hand on the holy grail, only to see Stanford grab it, and set in motion a series of events that leads to the eternal damnation Redrum longs to see befall the land of Troy.

Showing my age, but I think this is generational...
Imagine if Fleetwood Mac had filmed its early-80s "Tusk" video backed by the Stanford marching band at the Stick, rather than by a Marvin-the-Martian-helmeted marching band at Chavez Ravine.
Then the video is still in frequent play because its vibes are less Altamont than Woodstock.

Why on earth would anyone name a mascot after Troy? The clever enemy sneaks inside and pillages the city--not stopping until son Polites is killed in front of his father Priam, who himself is slit open on the alter to Zeus. I can certainly think of some welcome parallels....SC, Sark, Hayden...
