13-7? - OutsiderFan - 10-24-2014

Just read the OSU Rivals reporter score prediction.  He sees two horrible offenses meeting good defenses and actually predicts Stanford 13 Oregon State 7.  Wow.

I doubt if the guy really thinks the score will be that low. He was probably just trying to get attention and make a point.

He could have said...

Rodents with rotten teeth 2
Sickly trees without bark 3

to make that kind of point, couldn't he?

Sure, but then I think a lot of people would have dismissed the article as just silly.

Well, we scored 10 against ASU, the #6 in total defense in the conference. So scoring 13 against the #2 total defense in the conference is not only not unrealistic but possibly generous unless we fix at least some of our offensive issues. OSU's offense being held to even fewer points by our offense is not an unreasonable expectation either.

I think the prediction is entirely defensible based on past performances. It's only low if we expect one or both teams to improve on their recent form on offense.

Well, OSU's defense gave up 30 and 31 points to Hawaii and Colorado, two teams that are each 2-5 so far this season. So, IMHO, it is a little unreasonable to think that we are going to be held to 13 on our home field by them. We'll find out in a few hours, though.

Well, he's half right.  OSU's offense is godawful, particularly with the frosh and soph receivers.  Mannion is running for his life, which tells me that Stanford's DL subs are doing well.
