Jack Laird for Fan of the Season -
terry - 10-24-2014
Stanford will be naming several "Fans of the Season" this year. I'm supporting Jack Laird. Jack is an alum in the Class of 1940. He played basketball at Stanford with Hank Luisetti in the 1930s. He's 97 years old. Jack sits one row behind me, and he still makes it to most of the games (the night games are harder for him these last couple years). Jack has a long history with Stanford athletics. He worked in the athletic department, ran the Buck Club, ran the Starting Eleven, and who knows what else. I think it would be great to recognize Jack for his devotion to Stanford football.
If you want to support Jack, please send an email to Kevin Aha, kaha@stanford.edu

We've been seeing quite a bit of him on the Bootleg's political board, where he is fighting an uphill battle for control of the forum with three characters: (i) a prolific, disinhibited and crazed Arizona fan, (ii) a dogmatic authoritarian who dangles a promiscuously dancing woman in his avatar, presumably to try to induce people to conform to his views, and (iii)
this guy.

Well, Jack doesn't stand for the whole game. But he does manage to get up on his feet for key third downs and TD celebrations. I aspire to be a fan like Jack if and when I get to be 97 years old.
I didn't make the NotreDame trip. I made the Washington and ASU trips, though. Spent some time in Olympic National Park on the UW trip, and visted Sedona on the ASU trip. Both were good trips overall, with the obvious exception of the ASU game itself.
Hoping for a bounce-back win against the Beavers tomorrow!

I vote for Jack. Where can I vote? If 60 years of this nonsense hasn't killed him he may live forever. Maybe even long enough to see another Stanford Rose Bowl. We seem to average a spurt every 2o years or so.

At reunion I saw a 50++ reunion couple walking around campus hand in hand on their own. No golf carts for them. I told my wife. "They win."
