WBB: One More for Lauren -
yvonne - 10-28-2014
One of our women's basketball coaches posted a link to this on Facebook, and I thought some of you here might want to participate. It's a moving story.
Quote:Lauren Hill committed to Mount St. Joseph to play basketball on her 18th Birthday. Less than two months later, she learned that a brain disease called DIPG would kill her in less than two years. Last month, an MRI revealed that her tumor had grown and that she probably would not make it to the end of the year. Laurens goal became to play one last game. That game is scheduled on November 2nd and if all goes well, Lauren will have the chance to realize her dream and take the floor wearing her No. 22 jersey in front of a sold out crowd.
Inspired by Laurens courage and love for the game, WNBA players have committed to honoring Lauren, her last game and raising funds and awareness around DIPG by making donations and dedicating their next games to her.

BTW, for our neighbors to the north: Brittany Boyd posted a link with her own No 22 jersey and a pic of the team across the Bay.

This is an amazing story:

Her team usually plays in front of fewer than 100.
They had to move the game to the Xavier arena and packed it with 10,000 fans. Pat Summit showed up. Standing ovations from both teams.
See if any of you can read this with a dry eye.
