Is there a game this week? This board is awfully quiet for Big Game week. Of course, the Patriots stomping the Colts probably put a sour mood on many on here...

I just checked VegasInsider and apparently Stanford is favored by 6.5 to open up this week against Kal. Does that surprise anyone else? I hope our boys are ready for a dog fight, because that's what they're going to get in Berkeley. Both teams are playing for honor and bowl eligibility.

It's kind of a weird match up of wtrength against weakness when Kal is on offense and weakness against weakness when Stanford is on offense. How doe those matches typically play out?

Let's be clear about this.  The regular season is a mediocre 5-5 season, with another game to be played at UCLA.

The Big Game season has just started.  I hope to be undefeated in Big Game season.  Winning Big Game season will not greatly improve the regular season, but it is a worthy goal, worthy of a hundred years of tradition, the excitement of all those frosh who are even now learning about the excitement of Big Game week, the excitement of fifth year seniors who can graduate without ever giving up the Axe.

Wake up!  These are things worth celebrating and worth fighting for!  We love Stanford football because Stanford football is unique and is NOT like the football factories who take winning (and cheating) for granted.  Part of what makes us unique are these idiosyncratic traditions--it is NOT all about the record and the bowl, as much as those things are desirable and wonderful when they work out well.  It is ALSO about being the nation's top private university fielding a team of students to play against the nation's top public university after a week of zany hundred year old traditions.

Go Stanford!  Beat C.al!

I can't drink the Kool Aid this year.  We are a mediocre football team, and it is painful to see such a wasted effort from our great defense.  Yeah, I will root for Stanford in Big Game and hope that we win.  But that won't salvage the season for me.
