MWP: #4 Long Beach State 8 #2 Stanford 9 (MPSF Final) -
Viking_Guy - 11-23-2014
After falling behind early 2-0, Stanford has rallied for three unanswered in the second period to take a 3-2 lead.
And UCLA destroyed $C in the semifinal, so no matter the outcome of this match, Stanford is probably safe, either as the winner or an at-large. If Long Beach loses a close one today, it will be an interesting decision for the selection committee tonight.

6-6 at the end of 3 quarters.

Stanford broke on top by 2 goals, 4-2 and 5-3, but every time the 49ers came down the pool, they drew an ejection. Can't tell how much of it is home-cooking, but Vargas has gotten a yellow card. Bowen from distance has been Stanford's only offense recently.

Stanford wins 9-8 on a last-second goal from BJ Churnside in a man-up situation.
The stream was so bad it was hard to follow, and I never saw the final play. Hopefully will make some highlight reel later.
MPSF champs, and I'm hoping overall #1 seed. Again, the question is LBSU or $C as the third at-large.

I think it has got to be Stanford, Long Beach State (I would abbreviate it CSULB), UCLA. Incl. the tourney, CSULB had (I think) the same record against MPSF teams as $C. Give them the edge for doing better in the tourney.  UCLA vs CSULB for 2nd seed is a toss-up for me.
Congrats to Stanford. On to San Diego in a couple of weeks!

So the auto qualifiers are Stanford from the MPSF, #6 UCSD from the WWPA, #11 Brown from the SCIAC, and #20 Whittier from the CWPA.
My take is that #1 seed Stanford will play the winner of #4 UCSD and #5 Brown, while #2 seed UCLA will play the winner of #3 Long Beach State and #6 Whittier. Play in games are December 4, semis December 6 and final on the 7th.
And UCSD will be playing at home in La Jolla.
Hope I'm closer on this then I was on men's soccer :(.
Bracket is released in a few hours.

And I was wrong again. Maybe it's the Cardinal colored glasses.
In any case, UCLA got the 1 seed, and on Dec 6 will play the play-io game on 12/4 Brown/UCSD winner.
And Stanford got the #2 seed, and will play the winner of $C/Whittier. Long Beach misses out on the chance to dethrone the Toejams, and we get them in the semis.

Interesting. It appears the water polo committee doesn't care so much about the MPSF tournament - perhaps versus head to head results.
Stanford vs UCLA.
Both have three losses.
UCLA wins the MPSF regular season. Stanford wins the MPSF tournament.
UCLA was 2-1 vs Stanford, and took third in the MPSF tournament.
S.-C. vs Long Beach.
S.-C. 22-6, lost in the tournament third place game.
Long Beach 22-7, lost in the tournament championship game.
S.-C. won the single head to head match up.
