Macy's Parade coverage - OutsiderFan - 11-27-2014

Happy Thanksgiving!

Just curious if anyone here in the media business can give a reasonable explanation for why the Macy's Parade coverage is basically an infomercial for Broadway, TV shows and personalities nobody wants to see, and not live shots of the bands, floats, and balloons everyone wants to see.

Just looking at Twitter, it's pretty obvious people are tuning out as I have, but I'm having a hard time understanding why these TV networks who show the parade would purposely drive away the audience that wants to see the parade they grew up with, and the young people who might make up the audience in the future.  Just totally mystifying to me, and wondering if anyone here can make case for what the networks are doing, that most people could be missing.
