I can't get ESPNu. Is there a work-around? If not, is anyone watching Stanford v. FSU? If so, can you post some commentary? (We are just down 0-1.) Thnx.

I get ESPNU through my cable company--Every time I try to get on ESPNU I have to login and tell it my Comcast account.
I'm not a good observer of soccer, but I thought Stanford did a much better job controlling the ball and had numerous build-ups in the first half that did not result in shots-on-goal. The Florida State goal involved their player beating our defender from a standing start in the box and then sending a powerful kick diagonally across the face of the goal into upper far corner outside the reach of our goalie. It was a well earned goal and what looked to me like a perfect kick. It looked to me as if we were largely outplaying them but losing. But I'm eager for some decent analysis by VG so I can better understand what is happening.

Chi just missed a one on one vs. the goalie and went too far, reducing the angle and letting a Florida State defender close. Could have been a 1-1 game.Â
Coming back the other way Florida State had a close opportunity to go up 2-0.
It looks to me as if the refs are letting a lot of contact go. Numerous tackles with spilled players that play on.
Florida State seems to be composed of European all stars from Iceland, Finland, Germany, etc. A very international team. They also have a player who makes every throw-in into the equivalent of a corner kick. Amazing. The announcers note, however, that she could be called for time wasting as she comes clear across the field, wipes the ball down, takes 10 paces back, etc. On one or two throw-ins she got away with stepping over the line.

The FSU player with the amazing throws-in is profiled here: http://espn.go.com/espnw/news-commentary/article/11972940/how-florida-state-megan-campbell-throws-opponents-loop

We don't seem to be getting those build ups or opportunities in the second half. Only twenty minutes left and I don't see very much positive happening. I've almost never seen anyone who can take the ball away from Chi 1 on 1 and it has happened a couple of times.

Florida State just iced it with three minutes left going up 2-0.
An empty net goal. Campbell came out and the FSU player just went around her.
Sad that it ends in the semis, but still the team has shown a remarkable degree of excellence over the years. Congratulations to the team for another spectacular year!

FSU played better. FSU seemed to have more aggressive players with superior speed and skills.
The better playing team does not always win in soccer, but it seemed like the team that played better on the pitch today won the game.

We seemed too deliberate and precise in our attack, relying on pin-point passing to get the ball up the field -- we would make a bunch of pretty passes, but eventually one of our passes would go awry and FSU would gain possession. Especially as time started to wind down, I would have liked to see us just send the ball into the box and take our chances on a lucky bounce or fantastic individual effort. Also, we seemed to have a lot of trouble crossing the ball from the side of the box, especially from the right side.
I agree that FSU seemed to be faster overall and a few of their players really stood out. But I felt we had better passing (some very nifty give and go's) and definitely held our own.
That FSU player with the long throw-ins was remarkable -- what a weapon to have. I was also impressed by the FSU player with one arm (well, the second was amputated just below the elbow) who took all their corner kicks.Â
