Both coordinators gone? Ouch.

Well, Mason gets points for decisiveness but... - Redrum - 12-08-2014

...with a little over 2 mos. to LOI day, he might pay a high price when the coaches who have been recruiting players suddenly disappear .  Beyond personal relationships, overall for program optics it could look like chaos (on top of losing games)  and could create doubt in recruits' minds...which could tip them to favor some other school.  Welcome to the big time, Coach Mason.

He probably was in (or close to) a fire or be fired situation.

It does beg the question a little (with apologies to the Cardboard grammar police) of how capable he is of hiring quality assistants, but presumably he has learned from his initial failures.
