Of course, WSU felt the need to deny it on twitter within 1 hour of the original tweet...

The Pac-12 blog had a good take on those rumors:

The new rumor is that the Beavers are trying to pull a Wildcat and get their hands on Hoke. If that happens, I hope they have success against everybody except us, just to further piss off the Skunkbears.
Denials aside, Leach back to Texas makes some sense - Redrum - 12-08-2014
Even choosing from the recruiting leftovers after UT, T A&M, have their way, Leach stands a better better chance getting talent out of the Texas / Southwest high school talent pool than he does trapped up in the northeast corner of the Far West. I'm pretty sure Texas Tech is over their hissy fit regarding him and a lot of people think Leach was great to have around in the Big 12.
But, that's just the logic of it: bigger stage and better recruiting pool. The actual facts seem to be he's not going anywhere just yet.

Pretty well I would think, given that we led the pac-12 and possibly the nation in pass defense. You could quibble that our db's should have gotten some more int's, but that would be quibbling. Of course, he inherited a fairly experienced group of players, with 3/4 of our db's coming back from last year. The true test will be how he does after next year (or next year, if carter leaves early), if he sticks around that long.

Is that a report of something specific, or just a general statement that Akina is sought after?

I haven't heard anything, and it seems kind of odd for Akina to be a DB coach for years and years and then suddenly decide he wants to do something else. It would also be kinda odd to hire a DB coach to be a HC without anything in between (though Akina has coordinating experience, on both sides of the ball, he was demoted from DC at Texas most recently). But odd things sometimes happen...

Tyrone Willingham was never a coordinator when we hired him to be our head coach.

Actually, I think just the opposite is more likely. Akina was accomplished and secure for a long time. Then, the lightning bolt struck and he was cut loose from all that. Stanford, wisely, picked him up. But now he's looking at things or has been forced by events to consider his future more broadly. All the things that kept him in a comfortable , predictable view of the future got blown away at Texas. He might not be looking favorably on the movable life of an assistant coach all over again or he might figure what-the-hell and go for positions and responsibilities he'd ruled out previously.
