If he can do for Michigan what he did for Stanford and the 49ers . . .

This is really gonna make the Yorks look bad (if it is possible for them to look worse), having a college team offer to pay more for their head coach than they will for their NFL team, especially with a new stadium that mints cash.

I've spent a lot of time in Michigan over the past six weeks. Wolverines fans are NUTS (in a good way) and absolutely committed to UM football. They've pulled out the stops and offered to make Harbaugh the highest paid coach in college football.
Harbaugh has to be fighting conflicting feelings. His heart must be saying "Stay in the Bay Area, turn the Raiders into Super Bowl winners again," especially since Pete Carroll and John Harbaugh have won the last two Super Bowls. His head might be saying "your style is very well suited to college football, and Michigan may be the place that you're best suited," particularly w/respect to his rah rah style.
Still...the Harbaughs love the Bay Area and JH has never had a major head coaching role outside this state. My guess is that if Davis comes across, JH becomes their guy, especially since the Raiders do have some talent. They'd have to eat two years of McKenzie's contract, but I could see them doing it.

why Harbaugh won't go to Michigan anytime soon

Good for him. I hope he goes somewhere he is appreciated. I will always be grateful for him turning around Stanford football and coaching the best Stanford football team we are likely to ever see. (Yep, I am one of those who think the 2010 squad was our best ever).
Re: Harbaugh in demand - StanFan88 - 12-19-2014
I actually think that Harbaugh's "burn out" factor could play better in college than in the pros. Most players are there for five years - that seems to be about Harbaugh's lifespan career-wise. If he gets more autonomy than he got at Stanford or with the 49ers, as long as his players are keeping their noses clean and the team is doing well he probably won't rub too many people at the University the wrong way.
But the Raiders opportunity has to be pretty tempting, especially if Davis is willing to match Michigan's offer.

What does that mean?
No admissions to annoy him?

I think the burn out factor has more to do with "management" than the players

I've seen rumor that he's verbaled to Michigan.
Does anyone else find it odd that everyone has selective memory about how incensed they were after he called out UM for low academic standards back in 2007?

Indeed, the UM world seems to have developed intentional amnesia on that one.
Here is one fun article from 2007, though there are scads of similar available.

Quote:To anyone out there that still believes Jim Harbaugh has a shot at the Michigan head coaching job ever, no matter how good he is, needs to wake up. The bridges are burned beyond fixing and Harbaugh will never be hired at Michigan in any capacity.
Meanwhile, Seth Wickerhsam has an amusing portrait of Harbaugh - the great and terrible.

I heard this heavily "paraphrased" on the Sirius radio college sports station today.

Would Harbaugh take a "demotion" to the college level given the amount of sibling rivalry he has with his brother? I hear the Raiders are interested...

Oakland, Michigan, Miami are the three "public" suitors. Given Harbaugh's family's roots in the Bay Area I suspect Oakland will get him if the money works. I'm sure his agent was happy to have the Michigan offer set the lower end of the price range.Â

I heard a comment on the news that Harbaugh's wife is all excited about the prospect of going back to Michigan. Dunno if there's any truth to it.

Here's how this helps us A resurgent Michigan program poses a recruiting threat to ND.

It does; unfortunately it also poses one to us. Harbaugh will be going after good students, and will have credibility telling them why they should choose Michigan over Stanford.

Michigan and ND are comparable academically. Plus both are in the midwest. Neither is in Stanford's league academically. Michigan at least doesnt pretend it is.

It is ridiculous to think that Harbaugh coming back to college football could in any way help Stanford (well, unless he comes back to Stanford). There are 4 spots in the playoffs and plenty of good teams out there to take those spots. When former powerhouses like Michigan and Texas are down on their luck, that's more opportunity for us.
I almost like Harbaugh too much to see him go to the morass in Oakland, but I'd rather that than ever have to compete against him.
Re: Harbaugh in demand -
Bruce Wang - 12-20-2014
Only 1 team from the B1G will ever get in. Harbaugh will weaken one of our regular opponents. It's a net positive for us. We just need to win our conference and beat the Frollos and we're in. Harbaugh is only a problem if we face him in the post season. We should schedule Michigan even if it means dropping the Frollos. The regular matchup against the Frollos helps them more than it helps us - in the form a recruiting visit to California.

I don't see any particular reason, or way to know, that Harbaugh would be going after good students as a Michigan coach.
At least up until now, Stanford doesn't seem to compete with Michigan for recuruits particularly often.
Looking over the Stanford roster, there are a handful of guys who had an offer from Michigan but only two I can remember where Michigan was a serious player: Lyons and Garnett.
Looking over the Michigan roster, I only recognize two names. One is Jabril Peppers, a frosh CB talked a lot about Stanford early on. Stanford also offered a RS Soph OT Eric Magnuson - he was mainly memorable for being a friend of Josh Garnett and promising UMich fans he would bring Garnett along to Michigan.
So, it's not nothing, but that is a pretty small overlap. Michigan is certainly going to bring in the highest profile coach (lots of) money can buy, so whomever they hire they will continue to be a strong recruiter. Harbs at UMich is only a particular threat to Stanford if he completely overhauls their target pool, which could happen but I cannot see any particular reason he'd do so. Obviously, it would be far more dangerous if Harbs were going to one or our more traditional recruiting rivals (S.-C., und, UCLA), or to a solid private wanna-be Stanford program like Northwestern, Vandy etc.
