Public transport to the stadium - yvonne - 12-26-2014

VTA offers excellent service to Levi's Stadium. The light rail goes directly to the stadium, although only the Alum Rock and Mountain View lines do not require a transfer. Special 49er Express buses, which I highly recommend are NOT running in the evening. Most Park & Ride lots are not charging a premium that evening. Public transit is much more hassle free, and far less expensive than driving, parking, and trying to leave the lots at Levi's Stadium.

I went to the C.al-Oregon game at Levi's Stadium earlier this year. I rode the VTA light rail from Campbell to Levi's Stadium (the Winchester line). On game days, I think you can ride a train on any line straight to Levi's Stadium without a transfer. See the map here -- http://www.vta.org/levis-stadium-light-rail-service-schedules-foster-farms-bowl-1230

Based on my experience at the C.al-Oregon game, the upside of the light rail was that it ran straight to the stadium, it was easy, and it cost just $2 each way. The downside was that the train was jammed, there was a really long wait to get on a train after the game (about 35 minutes), and the train took a long time (over an hour between Campbell and the stadium).

If you're going to the tailgate you probably won't have to worry much about getting into a parking lot and finding a spot close to the exit.  Also, I don't expect as big a crowd as the 49ers have drawn this year, so getting out will probably not be too bad.

Re: Public transport to the stadium - yvonne - 12-27-2014

I hear parking was tough for the Kal-Oregon game and for the soccer friendly that was held there. Taking the express bus to the 49er game was a snap. Moreover, while the tailgate may stagger traffic before the game, it won't help with leaving.

Everyone is free to make his or her travel choices, but I want to let everyone know about public transit options.

Levi's bag policy - TreeWeird - 12-27-2014

I'm sure I won't be the only fan here whose last game at an NFL stadium was the Fiesta Bowl.

Levi's (and the NFL) has a very strict and relatively new bag policy:

BAG POLICY
In compliance with the NFL’s Bag Policy, Levi’s® Stadium prohibits all bags, backpacks and other carriers from being brought into the stadium with the following exceptions:

- NFL approved clear plastic bags (12” x 6” x 12”)
- One gallon clear plastic zip lock type bags
- Small Clutch Bag (the size of an adult hand) (4.5” x 6.5”)

All approved bags are subject to inspection upon entry and are subject to additional inspections within the stadium.
Guests with oversized bags or other prohibited items must check these bags or items at bag check sites located in front of Intel Gate A and Dignity Health Gate C, Toyota Gate F. These sites close one hour after the completion of the event.

For more information, visit www.nfl.com/allclear.

Yelp reviews indicate they have enforced this strictly during niner games.

And that's for all events held at NFL stadiums, not just NFL games?  Oof.

Also, I find it somewhat ridiculous that each gate has a corporate sponsor...

Gotta raise the $1.2B somehow - anyhow, really

TreeWeird, that's a very helpful post. I'm going to link it in a new thread to make sure people notice it.

Levi's Stadium published this graphic to illustrate its bag policy:

Re: Public transport to the stadium - stupac2 - 12-29-2014

If the game started at 5 I'd be all about the VTA bus to Fremont BART, but with the 7:00 start I just don't see any option for getting home at a reasonable time besides driving. (The holiday lack-of-traffic is also factoring in here, according to 511 the roads were empty this morning.) So that leads me to, what's the difference between the "premium" and "general admission" parking passes? I have been completely unable to find anything about what that extra $10 gets you, but I might just be blind.

Re: Public transport to the stadium - Leftcoast - 12-29-2014

Traffic is very light in the South Bay this week but no doubt that will change as you approach game time.  I'd allow 2 1/2 hours to be safe but that will probably get you to your seat with 60 minutes to spare.

The Levi's people are still figuring out parking for their new stadium and for the Pac 12 championship game they didn't open all lots.  That created a bit of a jam near Great America according to a friend who drove from Mtn View to the game.  It took him 90 minutes from leaving his office to joining me at our seats.    Even accounting for the same level of confusion I'd expect leaving 2 1/2 hours before game time would be safe.  If you aren't risk averse you could push it closer to kick-off.

Good luck!

I still go to two or three basketball games a year but, shockingly, Arkansas Pine Bluff wasn't one of the games selected.  I hope you enjoyed the game - blowouts are an underrated form of entertainment.  I know I was smiling all the way home after our two most recent Big Game drubbings of Ca.l!

Re: Public transport to the stadium - 82 Card - 12-30-2014

Weather in Santa Clara at game time is expected to be in low 40's, 21 mph sustained winds, gusts fo 35-45 mph. Hope all of you at the game are appropriately equipped.

The winds could cause problems with any aerial attack and kicking plays.

Fortunately for us Maryland's run defense is weak.

I personally have gloves, hat, extra socks, two hoodie-like jackets. Should be fine but we'll see...

I'm inside the Brocade Club, snug as a bug.
