Here is comparable info on the Pac-12's for comparison's sake.  I expected the Pac-12 to be better than the reality.  Even including the bowl games to date, only 4 teams even played an OOC game against a ranked opponent.  Some of the best OOC wins were against teams who will end up in the top 30 or so, such as UDFG, Memphis and Nebraska.  (Edit:  The Pac-12 schools play fewer tough OOC games because of the 9-game conference schedule.)

Oregon 2-0 (MSU, FSU)
Stanford 0-1 (UDFG)
Wash 0-0
kal 0-0 and lost to BYU
WSU 0-0 and lost to Rutgers and Nevada
OSU 0-0

Ariz 0-1 (Boise St.)
ASU 1-0 (ND) and beat Duke
UCLA 0-0 and beat Memphis
U$C 0-0 and beat UDFG and Nebraska
Utah 0-0 and beat CSU
Colo 0-0 and lost to CSU

Impossible to know which teams will be strong when the schedules are put together.  For example, it is hard to penalize a team for scheduling Texas OOC this year because in most years Texas is respectable.

Therefore I think it is fair to compare records of teams and conferences in their games against other Power 5 conferences.

The SEC is particularly annoying because they have only 8 conference games, normally have as many as 4 OOC home games, and feature a rather decadent number of FCS games in the middle of the season.

The SEC's performance in the bowl games is only shocking because the conference played relatively few quality OOC road games, but their November performances against the ACC did offer a clue that this bowl season result could happen.

I'm so confused how you're rating teams as good or not for purposes of these records.  Why was Ole Miss beating BSU not a good win?  Or why was ASU beating Duke not a good win, or Kal losing to BYU not a loss to a good team?  It's clearly not based on conferences (then Duke and Maryland, for example, would count), but also not based on being ranked because then Boise would count.  Is it just based on your guess?  A preseason ranking?

Re: $EC's out of conference record - TrumpCard - 01-02-2015

The records listed are for OOC games against teams that were ranked at the time of the game.  I added some additional games that were interesting to me, but not in any systematic way.  Boise was listed as an additional game of note because the team wasn't ranked early in the season.

Texas is always respectable.  Sometimes just terrible in football.

Hook 'em.  But did you hear about that J'Covan Brown story about getting by with the help of a fixer?

Yeah, that is too bad.  Would love to see some positive stories about academics and ethics arising from the ashes of some of the problems over the last few years.  Hopefully with a new president of the university, etc.  Texas politics and athletic $$$ and all that.Â
