Bloomgren interviewing - OutsiderFan - 01-06-2015

It very well may be that Shaw has asked Bloomgren to look for other jobs.  In any case, the fact he has a tie with Mark Richt certainly makes interviewing for him at UGA make sense.

Re: Bloomgren interviewing - Bruce Wang - 01-06-2015

If he goes, my top choice for replacement would be Mike Sanford.  The job would be an upgrade, but I'm not sure if we can pull him from his alma mater.

Re: Bloomgren interviewing - washingtonismoney - 01-06-2015

Sanford would be logical in some respects, but would make us shuffle the staff around quite a bit -- no OL coach to replace Bloomgren.

Re: Bloomgren interviewing - stupac2 - 01-06-2015

I really doubt that Shaw is forcing Bloomgren out. It's way more likely that Bloomgren was simply interested in the opportunity.

love to get Dalman back on the staff, either OL or OC along with OL responsibilities

+1. Outside of Stanford circles, Bloomgren is viewed very favorably. If Bloomgren were to land an offer at Georgia, I would expect Shaw to fight to keep him as he did for Turley and Anderson.

Dalman! If only... - Redrum - 01-06-2015

...to answer the question from long(ish) ago:  Was it Harbaugh that made him retreat to Salinas or did he really want to be a HS coach and teacher?

Re: Bloomgren interviewing - Bruce Wang - 01-06-2015

Shaw should at least make an offer to Drevno just to mess with Harbaugh.

Re: Bloomgren interviewing - OutsiderFan - 01-06-2015

Whatever happens, it still seems like a good idea to have a dedicated OL coach.

I agree, the problem is what positions do you combine to get there? With the number of coaches capped by the NCAA some stuff has to get lumped together.

Well, you could lump the QB coach and offensive coordinator.  Or you could have a wide receivers/offensive coordinator, as we did under Pep Hamilton.

Re: Bloomgren interviewing - StanFan88 - 01-06-2015

I don't know whether Shaw told him to look or he did it on his own, but I will not shed too many tears to see him go somewhere else.  I know it's not all his fault that the offense wasn't good enough this year, but he certainly shoulders some of that responsibility and the other guy in that equation isn't going anywhere nor should he.

I hope that Shaw hires an OC from outside the Stanford bubble.  He needs a fresh perspective.  Hopefully he can hire someone with D1 OC experience.

I expect the position coaches shuffle to be largely determined by what other job the OC is going to pick up.

Re: Bloomgren interviewing - terry - 01-06-2015

There could be a second opening on the offensive coaching staff, which would provide more flexibility for hiring a new offensive coordinator.

This based on anything?

Where is the raised eyebrow emoji?  I'm sure details will emerge...

If Terry writes it, it's based upon something.
If anything, he's understated.

Re: Bloomgren interviewing - terry - 01-06-2015

Info posted on Rivals indicates another possible departure on the offensive coaching staff.

Re: Bloomgren interviewing - BostonCard - 01-06-2015

I guess we will find out eventually, and I'm sure Andy appreciates it staying behind the paywall.

If Bloomgren goes, maybe he takes someone with him.  Or, maybe Shaw wants to shake up the offensive braintrust.  I'm sure that is what most people are hoping.  I'm not entirely convinced that we will get something better, and I am hoping that it was just that the offense was slow to develop and come together rather than a fundamental problem with the offensive coordinator and assistant coaches.  But time will tell.
