Why not a Bowl Swap?? - stanfan - 12-03-2010

This Bowl thing that the Rose Bowl and BCS have screwed up can be easily fixed.   Why don\'t we just swap out Bowl Bids with TCU???  They can go to the Fiesta...BCS game close to home for their fans (who I\'ve read don\'t travel well), nice weather, great Mexican food, etc; and we can go to the Rose Bowl against the mighty Badgers where we belong representing the Pac 10 in what would be the most interesting, smash mouth bowl game in many years.   I\'m talking real football, football fans, not this basketball on grass crap.

I believe the Fiesta bowl organizers are darn tired of carrying the non-AQ burden.  Boise State (2010, 2007), TCU (2010), Utah (2005)

It seems like every non-AQ has gone to the Fiesta Bowl.  My guess is that the Fiesta Bowl and every non-AQ would like for some other bowl to do some of the lifting here.  That probably was the genesis for this forced non-AQ rule, but I do not know that for sure.

And from a TCU perspective the trade stinks.  TCU was just at the Fiesta Bowl last year, so I would guess they don\'t really want to switch Fiesta for Rose.  Now, if they could get into the Sugar Bowl, I bet they would make that trade.

I do not know when the Sugar\'s rotation/obligation starts, but the point of this forced rotation was to spread the burden.  The Fiesta Bowl has done more than enough to keep the other BCS bowls out of DC hearings.

The thing is, it makes perfect sense for the other 3 bowls to do more of the "heavy lifting" by taking the non-AQs more often than the Rose.  They only have one conference tie-in each whereas the Rose has 2.  Why should the Rose be punished for having deals with 2 of the cartel members?  If the Fiesta hates having to take non-AQs that much, they should offer the BigEast a tie-in for their champ.

Well great.  If it is not so painful to go to these other bowls, then let\'s go!

Seriously, everyone knows the Fiesta Bowl is the least prestigious of the four BCS bowls.  Rose, Sugar, Orange, Fiesta.  Obviously!

Besides TCU was just in the Fiesta Bowl.  Ordinarly THAT would be the reason to move TCU out of the bowl using the "For the good of the bowl" type clause.

The Rose Bowl has to have this forced non-AQ clause precisely because it has two automatic tie-ins.  With two tie-ins it is never the last bowl to select.  And it is the last bowl to select that is normally forced to take that lowly automatic non-AQ.

Besides all of these efforts are sad attempts to keep the Government out of the BCS\'s business, errrr...charity work.  :)

The what seems fair stuff clearly does not apply, and has not applied to other Pac-10 teams over the years.  It is all a pathetic attempt to avoid a government mandated playoff system.  Thereby letting the teams with the biggest flock of snow birds dominate the BCS bowl invite system for years and years.
