West Virginia did its part to put us Fiesta Bowl - terry - 12-04-2010

Stanford\'s path to the Fiesta Bowl requires wins by West Virginia, Virginia Tech, and South Florida. That would allow the Orange Bowl to match Virginia Tech and West Virginia, leaving Stanford free for the Fiesta Bowl.

West Virginia came through for us. So far, so good.

A good season for Oliver Luck\'s Mountaineers.

P.S. I\'m not giving up on the Rose Bowl, but the Fiesta Bowl is my next choice.

Looks like Oregon\'s playing sloppy against Oregon State; Beavers are up 7-6 (blocked extra point)

Kind of the Ducks\' style - JohnR34231 - 12-04-2010

They play a little loose in the first half, then put the full court press on in the second.

I\'ll be surprised if this one doesn\'t turn out that way.

Auburn and South Carolina exchange touchdown drives.

Oregon State does not look good enough here in December to beat Oregon.  If that is the case, the BCS NCG is pretty much out of the question.

However, South Carolina is good enough to play with Auburn.  They might not win, but it is possible.

At halftime, Auburn is up 28-14 on South Carolina.

Well, this day has had no shockers.

Now it is down to USF.

USF beats Uconn then it will be the Fiesta Bowl.
Uconn beats USF and it might be the Orange Bowl.

Go USF!!

It would be nice for Oklahoma to stay in between Stanford and Wisconsin in the computer rankings by beating Nebraska.  However, that does not seem to be required to keep Stanford at BCS #4.

Fresno State from the terrible WAC beating the Illini on Friday will present a healthy ding to all of the Big Ten teams SOS rankings.

I heard that if the Orange Bowl gets Florida State, they will take Stanford, regardless of who wins the Big East.

I heard the Orange Bowl will take Virginia Tech vs. West Virginia, but they won\'t take Virginia Tech vs. Connecticut. They would rather have Stanford than Connecticut.

So, those of us who want Stanford to go to the Fiesta Bowl probably need both Virginia Tech and South Florida to win.

Terry,

Sadly, that seems logical to me.  FSU would fill the Orange Bowl without any problem.  FSU fans would likely call Stanford directly, allowing Stanford to claim it sold its allotment again, rather than waiting for the tickets to be returned.

Thankfully, I hate the horribly offensive chop enough that I have no problem cheering for the Hokies.

I would hate to go to the Orange Bowl and watch that silly chop for 3 or 4 hours.

VaTech will beat FSU...Christian Ponder is injured and the backup started the game for the \'Noles.  With one half of the game left to play, still a lot of time, it\'s VaTech by four.

With 12:00 left in the third, it\'s UConn 10-3 over USF.

The matchup would be undesirable, but it would still be a Stanford BCS bowl game.  Would you have taken the Orange Bowl at the start of the season? :)

With UConn hanging on and VaTech winning, I\'m betting the Orange Bowl will take Stanford rather than the Huskies, since they pick first.  Might not have as big a traveling group, but a much more marketable matchup than an offensively challenged UConn.

But it would make more geographical sense if the Orange Bowl took UConn. Stanford is a good 3,000 miles from Miami where UConn is only 1,500 miles. I would bet that there would be A LOT more Stanford fans in Glendale, instead of much less numbers in Miami. So the Orange Bowl would probably lose money if they took Stanford since we are so far out west. More UConn fans would travel to Miami and more Stanford fans would travel to Glendale, and I\'m one of them.

TV ratings matter, too, and Stanford, with a Voldemort-finalist QB and high-scoring offense, is a much more attractive participant than a 4-loss conference champion (that scored no offensive TDs tonight) to the Orange Bowl selection committee.  I\'ll be there, and I\'ll bring my EUTM.

Regardless of the bowl, Stanford will be required to buy thousands of tickets.  Stanford and the Pac 10 will have to eat the cost of any that are unsold.  The Orange Bowl has almost no risk (other than perhaps minimum ratings that it has committed to the broadcaster).

Re: West Virginia did its part to put us Fiesta Bo - Farm93 - 12-04-2010

8-4 UConn with no real offense and a shortage of high profile names is just a touch less popular than 11-1 Stanford with an amazing offense, Luck, and Harbaugh.  That pretty much says it all, I think.

UConn to FL and Stanford to AZ is so logical it hurts.  But the Orange picks first, and Virginia Tech would kill Uconn.  That would be a ratings disaster.  Stanford will not turn the Orange Bowl into a must have ticket, but the TV ratings should be OK.  Uconn getting blasted by 20+ points would be bad news, and with their limited football legacy it is not as if they travel in Nebraska like numbers.

The choice is clear as long as Stanford is #4.

Poor Fiesta Bowl, getting a OU-UConn match-up.  It won\'t even be competitive.
